Default Difference in datacard and USB

I read a post about a minute and they asked for a difference in a datacard and USB, I didnt quite know this and thought it was something basic and felt weird in asking, but now i will.

So someone please tell me whats the difference in datacard and USB connection?

A data card uses a PCMCIA interface. It plugs into a laptop into slots that are available on the sides. Here is a PCMCIA card:


And this is how it fits in into the laptop ...


The USB data card is different and looks like any thumb drive:

Data card can be used in a laptop but not in a desktop .... only a laptop has the PCMCIA slot

the USB modem can be used in both

USB (if its a Wireless Broadband) can also be linked to a LAN server to provide connectivity to multiple PCs.
