A 4G cellular system must have target peak data rates of up to approximately 100 Mbit/s for high mobility such as mobile access and up to approximately 1 Gbit/s for low mobility such as nomadic/local wireless access, according to the ITU requirements. A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secure all-IP based solution where facilities such as IP telephony, broadband Internet access and HDTV streamed multimedia should be provided to users.

The Japanese company NTT DoCoMo has been testing a 4G communication system prototype with 4x4 MIMO called VSF-OFCDM at 100 Mbit/s while moving, and 1 Gbit/s while stationary. In February 2007, NTT DoCoMo completed a trial in which they reached a maximum packet transmission rate of approximately 5 Gbit/s in the downlink with 12x12 MIMO using a 100 MHz frequency bandwidth while moving at 10 km/h,[19] and is planning on releasing the first commercial network in 2010.

WoW that is well ahead of time then isint it?

I cant wait for 3g to become affordable in India and I am sure it would take atleast a decade for 4g to become a reality in India looking at the pace India has embraced 3g at.

India is behind by atleast 8-10 years as compared to Europe and I dont think the government has the drive to take an initiative. 3G auction has been dragged over the years and is yet to take place. No idea when the prices will come down to a level when people can actually afford it.

People of India will benefit from any services or find it affordable only when our bureaucrat and politicians stop filling their pockets.

As far as I know 4G is only available to America, Canada and some parts of Europe as of now. I can't wait til it get here. Its has lots of new good features, specially its faster internet connection. It saves a lot of money from a lot of things.

Till now 4G has not been introduced on commercial basis anywhere. In-fact there are no Handsets available in market which support 4G Network Technology.

Swedish and Norwegian mobile users could be among the first to use a fourth-generation (4G) mobile network.
Mobile phone firm TeliaSonera has completed work on two 4G networks in Oslo and Stockholm.
The company said that the first customers will be able to start using the networks in early 2010.

There is no 4G in Canada or USA as of now. Pre 4G which is called 3GPP "Long Term Evolution"" (LTE) is often referred to as 4G is being tested. Only one provider in USA has started testing the LTE. As mentioned earlier there are no 4G phones in the market.
