Default Query regarding Plug n Surf options

    Hi all,

I am in need of some plug n surf internet connection. There are lot of plans available in market like Tata's Plug n Surf, Reliance DataConnect and new BSNL EVDO.

Can someone tell me their personal experience. What I am looking for is obviously cheap connection with preferably unlimited data browsing. And kind of job I am in, I can be posted to any remote location as well as to high tech cities too, so connectivity across India is also one issue.

    Views plz. (with tarrif plans)

In that case I would suggest Bsnl EVDO as Bsnl has one of the widest networks covering most part of the country and while in Delhi or Mumbai you dont get charged for roaming either (last time I checked)

Tariff was Rs650 a month unlimited but it might have changed in recent times as I havent been in touch lately. More learned members would be able to guide you better

As per your need only BSNL EVDO matches. Because as of now what i know is none of the mobile broadband service offer unlimited data plan, except BSNL EVDO. It costs Rs 550 per month. But as Admin too said the rate might have changed i came to know that they increases it to 900+ i guess. But still whatever the change may be its still the only mobile broadband service which has unlimited plan.

I agree to admin and jagan2
Bsnl evdo is the only data card that supports your need,it's unlimited with roaming too
+Point is the speed is upto 3.1Mbps according to bsnl, but the speed you will get is dependent on signal strength!
    For further details
    Ref to:.:BSNL EVDO:.

MTS also has an unlimited plan now (with FUP). No idea about coverage though.

Plug2Surf choice should be made on the following criteria (in that order):
    1. Location: This is most important. The new USB modems such as Reliance NetConnect+, Tata Photon+, MTS Blaze, etc. and BSNL EVDO all claim speed like 3.1 mbps. But this speed is not uniform everywhere. For instance, Netconnect+, Photon+, MTS Blaze give Broadband speeds in select cities only. At other places, the speed reverts back to 144 kbps. Refer to their websites on the coverage.
    2. Plan Cost, Usage Limit, FUP, etc.: First know that most of the plans of these Plug2Surf devices are meant for internet browsing, emails, chat, etc. Not for torrents and heavy downloads. So there will be a dearth of unlimited plans or there will be FUP. The plans will be more costly than wired broadband. Check all plans from all providers and compare them with each other.
    3. Coverage in other areas: In case you are usually on the move, check out the coverage. A friend of mine is an architect from Pune. He went for Netconnect+. It works very well in Pune (2+ mbps) but when is on site locations (Pune outskirts), the coverage is nil or speed drops to 144 kbps. 144 kbps is still OK for emails without large attachements but since he has a blackberry as well, his whole purpose of mobile BB has been defeated.
    4. The USB modem: This USB modem very costly and is of no use if you wish to change provider. Well, it has a slot for a micro SD card. So if you decide to stop the plan, you will end up with an expensive micro-SD card reader. Check with the provider, whether there is any scheme to buy back the modem in case you decide to surrender the connection.
    Other suggestions welcome.

thanks admin for moving it to correct section. Thanks everyone for their suggestion. As i said earlier, yeah localtion will be a big factor for me. I can do away with heavy downloading and similar stuff. But I would not prefer to buy an unlimited connection at cost of compromising the coverage of connection.

As far as the discussion has progressed I guess, EVDO is best. Being a BSNL service, the chances of increased coverage area in future is highly possible.

According to BSNL staff, BSNL EVDO coverage is better than BSNL 3G, which is still in implementation phase across Indian towns. It is cheaper too, but the signal strength at your location dictates speed.

BSNL 3G is better if you are planning to use in cities only. No roaming charges; speed is getting better now a days. Datacard costs Rs 2500 at present.
