Those who want the details can read the wiki below:-
Web accelerator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
so using this basically compression of data is done at the client's sides. So that the data could be fetch more quickly and save space as compared to un-compressed data.
You can compress your incoming data(and in some ways can also compress the outgoing data)
1. You should know where to put proxies in your browser.
2. This can save you lot of money because http compression is done by various methods which can save to upto 75% of original data. Raw Images are converted to compressed images. Compressed images could be even made grey scale(black and white) to further save money/data/time.
3. Compression of data means less amount of data which means less data to download.
4. The most popular way is to enable "Opera Turbo" in Opera browser. Opera browser can infact increase your net speed to a much extent.
I should list services which are currently working in the field of HTTP compression, please do give responses/leave queries regarding it.
Opera Turbo(inbuilt Opera web browser)
Slimbrowse.com(Account is required to be registered, uses HTTPs for HTTPs accounts- grey scale compression is also available.
Fastun.com(same as slimbrowse.com, but with many settings to choose from, and there is also a paid service for premium users)
Toonel.com (It is a java client which when saved on your computer can be used to compress your tc/ip traffic using the 127.0.0.1 :8080 on your browser proxy- you can let it render image quality from 1% to 99% compression using it but very slow sometimes)
There are also many webpages that offer compression like skweezer.com which can compress data and forward to you. You may check google.com for more about Webacceleration.
I am able to save alot of my data using these great-free services. I try not to use my gmail with them though. ;-)
