Reliance netconnect broadband plus comes with a 18GB data limit for Rs3000 and it can be used over 6 months so it would work out at Rs500 per month with 3GB data to use every month and due to the duration being 6 months it gives you a bit of flexibility as well. The best thing is that its prepaid and you can check your usage online.

Airtel's 3g sim card is another option but you would be spending more and getting lesser data limits.

I use both and I am happy with the performance but you should check what the reception is like in your area before buying either of them.

Reliance netconnect (propreitory data card) is ok up to 130 kBps at best and around 60-70 kBps average.
    {It is true in some buildings/some streets GSM 3G signal (2100 mhz)is poor inside the house. CDMA /800 mhz is always strong inside the house.}
    3Gb 2 rs 500 is not cheap.
Aircel 6Gb- rs 852 carry forwardable.
Airtel gives also double dhamka but not sure it is carry forwareable.
Ideal solution is 7.2 mbps GSM Huawei data card (unlocked E173/1750/1732 etc) around rs 1300-1400 and not CDMA (net connect/MTS/photon plus).
In a GSM data card, you can even use any GPRS pack pre paid sim for simple browsing ( That too has price fixed by cartels @ rs 98/1 gb. 3 daypack @ rs 14 by aircel is handy)
In my area voda/airtel Edge gives - 160 to 240 kbps ( 20 to 30 kBps). so sometimes you can save money with gprs pack sim and use 3g sim for serious ineternet work (say banking /net shopping/downloading etc)

    2g datacard<netcruise<3g datacard...
i dnt wish to for the 2g one....plans in netcruise are somewhere in my reach but not sure hw it will work bcoz even in voda store it gave max speed of abt 187kbps for 3.1 mb connection...even if i go with that im not sure whether it will b able to provide that speed after some time (say 3-4 mnths)...
    I m totally confused...pls help me
@Admin nice recommendation but paying for 6 months in advance? isnt that a bit risky i mean wat if the coverage isnt that good
if i compare voda n reliance i think voda has better coverage....wat u say? pls help im a total noob on this

Just google it or search on ebay. You have modems staring from 2k onwards.

Idea and Reliance is selling with lock ZTE model 21 mbps data cards in their show rooms. more expensive.

You are not doing your home work right.
when you say 2G data card-what is the make + model no?
3G data card- what make -model no?
There is no 2G data card in voda store. what they meant was - sim sold with it will be activated in edge pack.
Even though I know all the data cards sold by voda fone, Iam giving you home work- go back to the place where you went and
    post the models-
    what pack activation offered -
    pre paid/post paid cost ?
    data gb free offered etc...
then I will give you detailed opinion of all the data cards sold by voda store.

Ok Vodafone " 3G Stick" - is 7.2 mbps HUAWEI k3765 data card.
Sure @ rs 1950 - you get card worth ( rs 1400 max ).+ 2GB /month = so 6 Gb worth Rs 850 or so in post paid.

Can they give the same deal in pre paid with the same FRC 3 months 2 gb/month ??

    Post paid is head ache.

After the initial carrot ,they will give you nice stick in your ass by over charging for everything!

Unlocking /Flashing dash board of K3765 is a bit of risk.(can spoil the modem)

HUAWEI's other models like E173 /E1750 are better. easy to unlock or get a unlocked one.

    Vodafone's bloated software is a big drag ( I have voda's ZTE k3570z 3.6mbps bought 18 months ago)

    Iam not saying Voda sim+ 3G service is bad.I use Voda3g +Airtel3g + Aircel 3G .

Buying post paid and that too locked stick - I will not wish for my worst enemy.

    Go ahead if you wish.

Ramayana ...allnight ..Vodafone katha is over !
    Now Vishnupurana starts ...Airtel story
to get you started on your new quest.....
Airtel sells HUAWEI 1732 (not as good as E1750) with lock with 1 gb free may be!! Prepaid or Post paid.(depends how naive you are)
Finish this and come ,then we will start you on IDEA 's data card story.....
where are you based ? if you are willing to buy online using credit/debit/online banking,I can give you better solution.
Pre paid sim you get from the street next door/shop. and then activate 3G.

please refer to my detailed explanation to your thread here http://www.indiabroadband.net/mobile...tml#post355841 (Vodafone netcruise)

since recently MTS licences have been cancelled in the 2G case, right now it may not be a good option.

So depending on the technology you prefer to choose, you got the following options,

    1. CDMA-EVDO
Reliance Net Connect Plus (with network locked data card) and prepaid recharge of Rs.3000 for 180 days and 18 GB - all India roaming free.

    2. GSM-3G
MTNL 3G SIM with open market E1750 data card and prepaid STV of Rs.4999 for 180 days and 100 GB - all India roaming on BSNL network free.
