    Default APN Settings for USB Dongle

    Mobile broadband has become quite popular and every service provider now have their own USB dongle and in order for the connection to work successfully the APN settings need to be entered into the Mobile Application software. Generally the settings are preinstalled but for any reason they are not or the settings have been played around with then you would need to enter the settings in manually.

    First you need to go into the mobile application software. Select the tools option, and select connection type, select either NDIS or RAS Modem and then click OK

    Now again go into tool, and select profile management and select new. Enter in the service provider name and profile name, select static, enter APN according to your service provider. Then lastly select save.
    Select your service provider and click on connect.

    Good information, but are these not automatic when you connect the dongle?

    I recently purchased a Huawei Power-fi 3G datacard which got WiFi facility. When I just inserted it in the laptop USB port, it started installing all necessary files. Even the services provider name and APN were automatically filled in. I think these types of information is already pre-loaded in the dongle nowadays.

    But I am facing a problem of "limited internet access" and frequent disconnection of connectivity when I use it as a separate independent WiFi hotspot through a USB adapter. I am just struggling to find out the actual reason.

    The power source could be a problem, if APN settings are already defined. Try with a different power source/USB charger.

    I use a new Samsung Travel Adapter (Model ETAOU10IBE) and the specifications are as below ;

    Input - 150-300 VAC
    50-60 Hz 0.35A
    Output - 5.0V ====2.0A

    As you said, I think the actual issue lies with the adapter for frequent disconnection of WiFi. Whereas it works well when it is connected to laptop directly or through a USB cable.
