Default Best Unlimited Mobile Broadband?

Best Unlimited Mobile Broadband

Hey guys...

I've been living in the US for 7 or so years and I was looking into figuring out what would be the best unlimited broadband service in Mumbai / Bombay and best mobile broadband for on the road usage.

MOBILE SERVICE:
I might be travelling all over india for work and personal reasons. What would be the best service for using on my laptop with respect to the following parameters?
- Unlimited Data / Usage
- Speeds / Bandwidths?
- Area Coverage
- Technology: CDMA / 3G / WiMax
- Device Options: PCMCIA / USB Cards / CDMA Phones, Adapters etc,
- Price:

BASE SERVICE:
I would be living in the Andheri area where in the past I've used MTNL DSL, VSNL Dialup (long ago), TataIndicom-7Star Ethernet Cable Internet, Now also Reliance Broadband.

I'd like a no hassles, reliable high speed internet package that wont have me PULLING my hair out when online.

I've hated the 7star / Tata "LOGIN" pages. Its irritating to have to log in every time and on every machine in the house (our place has internal CAT cabling all through..)

Thoughts? Advise? Options?

PS: I surf a lot, download torrents (Linux Distros, OSX86 Distros, Windows Servers, MSDN, DVD ISOs, DivX, FLACs, Mp3s etc)

I appreciate your feedback.

I am also wondering why we dont have accurate numbers, surveys and reviews of ISPs using a DSLReports or SpeedGuide.net measurement mechanism. I did go an look at the SG.net stats for Bombay & then for Mumbai & then for Andheri.. etc.

I am wondering how many actual samples / users info are those stats based on.

PS: I have lowered expectations as compared to the US but want to find the best possible.

There is no mobile broadband service available anywhere in India.

Mtnl Delhi will roll out their 3g service later this year but thats not gonna help you sitting at Mimbai..

Get Adsl Airtel broadband connection for home and may be a reliance data card for when you travel but this reliance data card is only good for browsing and sending small e-mails..

Thanks for the reply.

Is the Reliance WiMax going to be any help in terms of mobile broadband? I have used RConnect before and its just as you mentioned.. slow and good only for browsing & emails.

Reliance only provides fixed wimax connections.. the mobile wimax technology is being experimented in Peru these days and there are a few more trial runs going on but no commercial mobile wimax broadband available in India yet.

Try BSNL EV-DO.It has only unlimited plans at present and it the rent is also very less (Rs.650 per month). The only problem is the signal. If you get a good signal you should most probably get good speeds provided your in a city.Even in the villages it has coverage but you will get lesser speed due to CDMA2000 IX coverage.

Using a Huawei EC 168 C with Tata, Reliance, BSNL & US Carrier
Is it possible to be able to use a Huawei EC 168 C with Tata, Reliance, BSNL & US Carrier.

I believe Tata, Reliance & Alltell / Verizon (US) currently or in the past have used the Huawei EC 168 EVDO USB Data Card.

I do not want to have to buy 3 cards from each when the hardware is the same.

Is this something I can do easily with Software / Dialer / Simple Config file or do I have to do a Hack / Flash / ESN etc change?

What are the possibilities?
