Rep Power: 12 | Lately, we have been hearing about Mtnl 3G network (Mtnl 3g mobile broadband) but not all of us know what 3G is all about and how it can improve the level of communication. If you do not know what 3G stands for, it is Third Generation telecom services. Currently what we have is 2G services and they operate within the bandwidth of 30 to 200 KHZ on the other hand when we get 3G network, they will be working at a much higher speeds and it will be between 15 and 20 MHZ. If you are not familiar about bandwidth, it is the frequency of the waves, which is used to transfer data. Number of countries have already moved to using 3G and in India we are awaiting the for 3G network soon. BSNL mobile has promised to bring 3G network to India in Jan 2009. When it does come, the speed of mobile network communication will be increased by several times. All along the 2G network has been concentrating on providing high quality voice transfer. Now with 3G, high-speed data transfer is possible and the minimum expected speed is 144kbs, which will allow mobile broadband connections. Using 3G, we will be able to use features like mobile TV and other video services that require high-speed mobile broadband connections. When the quality of video transmission will be enhanced, the quality of voice transmission too will be improved dramatically with 3G connection. Users will also be able to access other high speed applications online including interactive games, movie and music downloads, etc. The idea of 3G network is to provide the users will all the facilities of home computing on the move. You will not be limited in any way because you are travelling. You will be able to do everything that you would be doing with your laptop sitting at your home, which uses high-speed broadband connection. What will take 3 minutes to download in your current 2G connection, will take only 15 seconds in 3G. Therefore, it is all about speed and quality. It will not only help the mobile consumers, it will also boost business for mobile companies such as BSNL mobile, Airtel mobile, Reliance mobile and Tata mobile. They will not be limited to the current voice based services. With 3G network, it will be possible for them to offer high-end video services as well. We can soon find mobile TV and similar services. All these are bound to increase the revenue generated by these companies. The next question is how much it is going to cost the end user. Obviously, the cost is going to be dearer than our regular 2G connections. However, one of the good things about the Indian market is that there is a heavy competition and hopefully more new players will come in, which will keep the cost under control. Highly competitive environment is something good for the consumers because in their competition. Companies will try to outdo one another in terms of better pricing and in terms of offers and features to attract more customers. Therefore, we can expect some really good 3G deals when we have it in India. |

Rep Power: 2 | I think 2G & 3G will go simultaneously. But Sims for customers opting for 3G will be changed and will be offered to those only who subscribe like in abroad. I think Operators will use seperate towers for 3G or we will see just Cell Towers everywhere in cities lol |
