Default How much do you spend on Value added services

    Hi,
I was reading a report that 40% share from operators revenue from Value added service(VAS).

Now, Spending on Value added service(VAS) is worthless as the same content is available for free. so it does not make any sense.

Earlier i used to spend 50% of my monthly phone bill on subcribing to VAS services like Cricket pack,Ringtones and news etc.

Now i have cut on on VAS services and started using free service instead.

    Free Alternatives to VAS:

    Google SMS channels
    Mytoday

How much monthly do you spend on VAS and why?

    My one line answer: ZERO.

I do not use SMS services, I do not subscribe to ringtones, hello tunes, dial-to-buy, etc. Some years ago I used to SMS for cricket scores, no more.

I also do not use any VAS.
Caller tunes - too risky, imagine your boss calling up to "dard e disco"
news/cricket - listen to the radio instead
astrology - trust the morning paper
    others - who cares

Ditto from me too. No spending on VAS.

BTW i have seen people recharging for 30/- every month, just to sustain their Caller Tune.

As long as India is enriched with such oddities, mobile service providers will always be smiling !!

I have subscribed to Reuter's and Mytoday's News Alerts and Business Updates.

And people pay Rs. 6 per SMS for voting contest, reality shows, etc. What a terrible waste of money!

    ^^^
    Absolutely.
I personally think the I&B Ministry should make it mandatory to indicate the total cumulative worth of the SMSs recieved for their programs.
would be an eye opener to all.

One should not forget that on India we don't have a computer everywhere.VAS like games, callertunes, ringtones, sms etc are fun for many and that's the reason they spend on it.

absolute ZERO ... i dont avail any such VAS. i would prefer my mobile in built radio for listening songs rather than spend money to listen songs, i would turn on the loudspeaker if people around me want to listen to them also rather than using caller tunes, and IBF jokes section is here for jokes ...
