Default Low cost offers from mobile phone service providers

As going around, reading the papers and watching tv, the main ad you see is regarding mobile phone offers!

And when you see these offers they are very cheap for example if im right there was an Idea banner which said all local calls 20paisa, and so on!

Why all of a sudden in low cost calls and offers?

Anything dodgy to look out for?

Its a question of competition. Most mobile operators are now trying to get new customers by various schemes.
But before jumping the bandwagon please look carefully for the following,
1. are there any fine prints to the offer, like limit to the no. of minutes, no. of phone numbers.
2. whether the scheme is only for calling on-net (of the same operator) or off-net
3. rates of other calls (like STD calls in the present case)
4. do you intend to use VAS (Value Added Services), if yes, what are the rates for such services

they cant do anything other than this...

the phones are chaper now. one can get a Nokia at Rs. 1200/- now. a phone connection is worth free. so they have to give away such offers to people so that they cannot log out their services..

most interestingly, major development i see is in sms and calling.. 15 Rs. Recharge and you get 1000 sms etc and 40 Rs recharge and you get free operator intranet calling and 40 paisa to others...
