Pros:
1. mobility(modem is inside your pocket and you can take it everywhere)
2. easier access(just use your pc synchronization software that comes with the phone)
3. unlimited and FUP data plans are available.
4. speed is descent.
5. very small cost of hardware(you just need a mobile with modem inbuilt)
6. multiple ways to access internet viz. usb data cable, bluetooth, infrared.
7. access is data consumption based and not time based.
8. thousands of modems (mobile models) to choose from.
9. not just a mobile, you also have a camera, a music player, and a communication device to call and text.
10.can be used to access net on p.c as well as the mobile itself.
Cons:
1. expensive data plans as compared to Broadband access.
2. maybe charged heavily on roaming.
3. mobile hardware on stake.
4. speed varies with varying speed.
5. high latency.
6. speedy connection will require costly mobiles with faster modem.
7. mobile battery is taxed quickly.
8. mobile prone to higher virus attacks.
9. incoming messages/calls may get barred, vice-versa for data.
10.high use of usb cable slot likely to wear-tear the phone usb quickly.
There are Pros and Cons of using a mobile as a modem for the internet access on P.C. or by its own self.
Typically phone browsers like Opera Mini etc, cannot stand before desktop browsers. They lack basic features, and are less secure.
But still, because of the mobility feature, cost of hardware(which is absolutely low), and upcoming competition of mobile market, users of this highly intelligent service are increasing each day.
