for VOIP: the phones normally used will do.

( I am Using Vonage VOIP with a 5.8 GHz cordless phone )
I cannot see even an option to change Pulse/Tone mode.
Also in a Panasonic 2.4GHz cordless.

    1.
    OOMA
VOIP charges are 25% of Vonage on yearly basis. Tested in a relative's house. working fine.
    2.
    Vonage
VOIP adapter now can be used only as a switch !!!
Voice message in phone asks you to renew the connection.

    3.
    "Skype"
is more than sufficient to chat see video etc.
    Phone calling facilities also available.

Sure : any cordless or ordinary phone will work.
Usually 900MHz model cordless and even earlier low VHF 80 MHz band.
If the base station and cordless handset have intercom facility
test it.( or the Handset locator)
If it works on BSNL line ( probably in PULSE mode )
will work for VOIP in TONE mode.

Battery replacement of the Handset. can be Panasonic P=P501 type
or equivalent. Usual voltage 3.6V ( 3 NIcad rechargeable cells )
