    Default National Roaming

All mobile service providers in India charge for national roaming, and I find it totally pointless. If someone has to travel to another state then they would always be charged so much because of roaming charges, although its not much it still counts towards each that is made. Some mobile service providers charge for incoming and there is no roaming charge on outgoing, and I dont see the point in this.

National roaming charges should be stopped altogether.

I read recently that airtel is about to provide free roaming service at a fixed montly fee. Also came to know that trai cant approve elimination of national roaming fully even though our telecom minister had announced of plans to introduce free national roaming.

Although roaming charges are not alot, but I think they should be stopped. Yes mobile service providers gain profit from this, but they get profit from other ways too. These days a lot of people use Skype, Whatapp which only usesthe data in their phone, so calls are not used as much as before, therefore roaming charges do not really matter, however better if they were removed.

Soon the fees will be gone aswell for not having roaming charges.

@ Ramjet coming back to your point about this service being free after a while, think that just may happen. I remember when the missed call alert started by Airtel, they asked for a charge to start the service, but later it was an automatic thing which happened. If your phone is off or out of coverage and someone is trying to call, then you later get a message that blah blah number was trying to call you. It is free because I havent activated it.
