Thread: Fake IMEI phones to stop working

For those who are using Chinese phones need to be prepared, as from the 1st December 2009 their phones will be of no use and be the same as just a brick, especially those who have fake IMEI number.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has been instructed by Indian telecom operators that they should disconnect connections whose handsets are of a fake IMEI number or have no IMEI.

If you need to check if you phone has an IMEI number or not, then do the following:

1. Dial *#06#

A 15-digit number will be displayed on your handset.

2. To validate the IMEI, sms IMEI <15 digit IMEI number> to 53232 (Rs. 3 per SMS)
For eg; IMEI 351869910223340 to 53232

* Message displayed for correct IMEI - Success!!
* Message displayed for incorrect IMEI - Alert!!! Invalid IMEI

3. In case of an invalid IMEI, you can either buy a handset with a genuine IMEI number or can follow the below mentioned instructions:
