    Smile Mobile Operating system

Mobile phones also run on operating systems. Today there are a variety of operating systems available for mobile phones. Some of these operating systems are free and some come with a license fee. Here is a list of some popular mobile operating systems.

    Symbian:
Nokia the largest mobile phones manufacturer uses its own symbian operating system. The symbian is quite good and nokia has had lot of success with this operating system, infact symbian OS at present has the largest market share with all nokia phones like the n series and the e series running on symbian .

Windows mobile: Operating system giant Microsoft also has released its mobile versions like win mobile 6 and 6.5, but windows mobile phones were never a success, the windows mobile oS is far too slow and isn’t properly optimized for mobile phones and further more it comes with a license fee .

    Iphone OS:
Apple uses its very own iphone operating system for its smartphone. The iphones are very popular which meand the iphone OS is great too. But the problem with Iphone OS is that it is locked and only apple can use it.

Blackberry: Research in Motions popular smartphones for professionals runs on RIM‘s own OS blackberry.

    Android:
Google’s new android OS is revolutionary and has now begun the operating system war. Android is free and open source and is now the most preferred operating system running on some real cool high end phones like the nexus and droid.

    WebOS :
webOS from palm is another operating system which has great potential but has never been utilized well, but with HP’s acquisition we can hope for further innovation in the operating system mobile operating system fields

The future of operating systems for mobile phones promises to be a competitive one with the choice of OS being very crucial in a buyer deciding upon the mobile phone to buy.

    Very crisp information :-)
Another point to add here: Windows mobile OS has two flavors. One is PPC (pocket pc). This is touch screen mobiles. Other one is SP (smartphone). This do not have touch screen. But both are Windows Mobile.

Another question was about Motorola and Samsung. You need to specify the model model. There are many Motorola phones like Q9h which uses Windows mobile. Recently Motorola launched its Android OS based phones.

Same is with Samsung. They also make use of other OS. Both are just hardware manufacturers, and do not have any prosperity OS. Though there are news that Samsung is working on their own mobile OS

I add some more crispiness to your crips information

Pocket pc run Windows Mobile Professional.

    Smartphones run Windows Mobile Standard.

Further, Windows Mobile is well known for true multitasking. And the latest perhaps the last Windows Mobile version is Windows Mobile 6.5.3 (btw Wm 6.5.5 is in testing phase)
