Default Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+ Review

    Hello

It has been a while since I started a new thread and it has been a while since I bought a new phone so I am going to do both at once. I placed an order for Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+ and it will be delivered tomorow hence this thread. I have never used or even held an Alcatel mobile phone in my hand before so I am hoping it doesnt turn out too bad.

The reason I am buying a new mobile phone : I just find it amazing that a mobile phone will come with an octacore Ghz processor with 2Gb RAM. I have used a desktop computer which had a lot slower processor and 128mb RAM and I was proud of that configuration back then. Have run websites on servers with lesser specs back in the 90's This phone was also the cheapest with this processor so I just want to see how it behaves and might even dump my samsung note (ancient version from the times of Tatya Tope) and start using this one if it doesnt look too tacky.
Another reason I wanted to buy Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+ was because of the "boom band" that comes in the box. I hate the color and will never use it in public but I do want to check out the technology and see how good/bad it is.

The most important reason which I am buying it : Me and Smoothvibes were talking over the phone a couple of days ago and he mentioned that he is going to buy this one and I asked him why this one and he just went on and on about the phone so that generated a lot of interest and I guess Smoothvibes havent ordered his and by the time he reads this thread I will have my phone delivered already as I opted for the faster delivery option (flipkart)

I am going to post an ongoing review as I start using the phone so there is not much to share right now as I dont have the phone yet. Will post here once I get it.

Ustaad, by the time you posted this thread my eyes were tired using new phone hahaha :-D

I got my device in morning and from that time till now its in my hand, after a long time I went to jog n first time in my life I counted my steps :-D

So far I am totally satisfied with its performance n will write a complete review after one week of usage.

Good stuff. I dont really like the color of that band but features seem to be nice. Will see what it looks like once the phone arrives... You obviously beat me to it.

I haven't heard of the brand name Alcatel before. Is it an Indian brand or a new brand?

You could say it started as a French company but it is now listed at Hongkong stock exchange. It is not an Indian company but I will be surprised if half their engineers are not Indians

Not a bad phone especially with the good specs it has, octa core is impressive!

Why so cheap though? You would expect a phone with these kind of specifications to be anything above Rs20000.

It is near about 20K just 3000 short of 20K. Alcatel will get a major foot print in India with this phone so I am guessing that this is a part of their larger marketing plan. People will know the brand atleast. I would have never thought about buying an Alcatel had it not been for the price so their stratgy is working.

Alcatel brand is now owned by TCL. But then most other phones, including iPhone are from that part of the world (iPhone are mostly manufactured by Foxxconn Taiwan).

They are all mostly either made in China, South Korea or Tiwan.

Must be a good phone, after day of this thread being posted, I had opened the link in the thread which points to Flipkart and the phone was sold out, looked at it again today and still sold out. Seems like this Alcatel phone is going to be popular. Not a bad price either.
There is another phone on Flipkart the Mi5 which is being showcased as being a top phone, some what a competitor of the Alcaltel Onetouch Idol X+ I think, specifications are slightly different and price is lower as well around Rs13000.

I think the new release Mi3 is quite a similar phone to the Alcatel phone, that too has a band which monitors heartbeat etc.

Yes there is a new phone it is by Xiaomi, the major difference in the phone is that it has a dual core processor where as the Alcatel Idol X has a octa core processor.

I believe Alcatel Idol X + is a much better phone as compared to Xiaomi's model that Amazon is selling these days. Xiaomi is just dumping the old model here where as they have a newer version selling in the rest of the world.

After Alcatel being released with an octa core processor, other brands are also coming with octa core processors too, the latest I have seen is a Panasonic and a Karbonn Titanium mobile phone. With the Alcatel phone they have given a fab price for the specifications of the phone, and I think it would be quite hard for other phones to match up to its specifications with a similar price. The Xiaomi Mi3 phone has tried the same specifications as the Alcatel including the price but has not done well in sales.

Admin how is the Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ performing? Probably thinking of getting this phone, just wanted to find out whether it is worth it, and from the post date I see you have had it for a good 2 months now.

There is a new model for the Alcatel phones which is the Alcatel One Touch Flash, and it is priced at R10000. I haven't looked much into the specifications but what I know is that it has an octa core processor.

That was a quick launch from Alcatel after their Alcatel One Touch Idol X release, which had a positive response. I think it is most likely that this next launch will be a success too, especially because of its price range.
