Default Choosing a screen size for a smart phone

I need a new smartphone and as you all know there is so much choice in the market that you have to narrow down from so many smart phones from brand, to processor, camera specifications and screen size. The screen size is where I am stuck, and I don't know whether I should get a phone with a screen size bigger than 5 inches. I did have a look at some phones which are phablets, which have a screen size of 7 inches which is a great size but when holding the phone and walking around with it, it seems a bit odd and it is not easy to keep it in your pocket either. Are there any phones with a screen size of around 6 inches?

I don't want to regret the decision by getting a screen size of the wrong size.

Hold a slim novel in one hand, and without using the other hand, and starting from the bottom, see how far your thumb can travel, that is the extent of screen size that you will be comfortable operating with one hand.

Also, if you want to watch movies while traveling, go for the max screen size which you can afford. If its games you wanna play, go for a compromise between largest screen size, fastest cpu, max ram, and best battery life.

Good way to decide on a screen size! Using your thumb to establish what screen size would be suitable, is that something that you figured out yourself or a common thing?

My own idea about being able to hold any thing comfortably. Also applies to the cell-phones that I own. Though, I currently own a Xperia z1, and it does require two handed operation.

    Cheers!

A screen size can be anything from 4 inches to 7 inches, it is ones own comfort and preference. It also depends on what else you would do on the phone apart from making and receiving calls.

I think a good screen size is 5.5 inches, it is neither too big or too small. It is good size to type, view images and browse. Getting a bigger size is a personal choice, I would only think that getting a larger screen size would make it more difficult to use the phone as you would require two hands instead using one.

It is always recommended that you go and see the phone before actually purchasing it, as sometimes size is a problem. My friend brought an HP Slate, which is a phablet and the screen size is 7 inches. He ordered it online and didn't actually go to the shop to see the phone or even hold it, he was hell bent on getting a big size screen and now he regrets it. The phone is difficult to hold at times, as its not easy to type and also it doesn't fit in his pocket.
So its best to see the actual phone in the shop and try it out.
