That button records the voice message and then compresses the file before sending it to the intended recipient. You cannot do voice chat using whatsapp unless you want to call that voice messaging feature that.

You could use Skype or viber for voice.

WhatsApp does not have a calling feature, but it was quite recent I think yesterday that WhatsApp was deciding to include a calling feature.

Thats right WhatsApp is thinking of adding the voice call feature, its been doing the rounds since February. Majority of the population use WhatsApp and this would be an ideal decision, although telecom service providers are going to be in great losses.

a good part of that "majority" is gradually shifting to either LINE or Viber

It would be good if WhatsApp started a calling feature, currently they are providing a really good messaging service so expecting the same from their calling feature.

Whats App does not have a calling feature, and I was thinking that all this free Facebook and Whats App provided by service providers will soon stop once Whats App start voice services.

Slightly offtopic, but I saw an advertisement on TV today and it showed that with Viber you can make free local and STD calls, how does that work?

Free local and std or international calls when there is viber at both ends.

Alot of people already know that, but the thing is nothing is mentioned about international calls even though it is known that when both ends have Viber service calls would be free and only the data usage would be used up.

I regularly use Viber to Viber calls, both voice only and video. Between two Viber users, the geographical location does not matter. My daughter used to talk with my wife for an hour a day between India and Finland. I also have Viber Out premium account activated which enabled you to call any normal landline or mobile anywhere in the world, at a cost. Minimum topup for Viber Out account is $5. Call rates to Indian numbers is 2.2 cent/min and to US is 1.9 cents/min.

This is really cheap, I didnt expect calls to US or Canada would be this cheap. What is the validity of this plan?
