    Default Salt lamp

I just randomly see this video. It seemed to be off topic that I post a video about a salt water powered lamp in a topic discussion area about cellphones but it's not. The video is about an invention called a salt lamp. It is an electric lamp that uses salt water as a source of energy. You can either use sea water or 2 cups of water with 2 teaspoons of table salt. It still sounded off topic right? Well this thing have a USB port and you can charge your cellphone with this thing! If you live in a place near a beach, You can charge your cellphone for free. If you live in a city, It might be good charging your cellphone in case of power interruptions and blackouts.

This invention is from a country known as Philippines and I heard it is not getting any support from it's own government. If this thing is mass produced, We can now charge our phones everywhere. I mean it looks portable.

Salt molecules are made of sodium ions and chlorine ions. (An ion is an atom that has an electrical charge because it has either gained or lost an electron.) When you put salt in water, the water molecules pull the sodium and chlorine ions apart so they are floating freely. These ions are what carry electricity through water.Fresh water won't conduct electricity as well as salt water.

The recent unexpected rains in South India submerged the city of Chennai for days. Two major hurdles in rescue operations were the continuing power outages and consequent breakdown in communication.

It is in such helpless situations that handy gadgets like the ''Salt Lamp'' turn out to be a blessing. I hope, as the world braces itself for similar calamities ahead, the ''Salt Lamp'' captures the attention of those who matter, and soon becomes an integral part of the emergency relief kit.
