Does anyone know if we can install or some how run skype using wifi connection?

I would buy one if this is possible coz untill now only windows mobiles are capable of installing and running third party softwares and most windows mobile are prone to hanging and one issue or the other like windows we use on a pc

    Default IS this true???

Hey guys I heard iPhone has some shortcomings. Can any1 of you trace out how far this is true???

This is the list of shortcomings. I got it as a forwarded mail.

    1. No video calling,

    2. No AD2P on the Bluetooth,

    3. CAN’T share ANY (mp3, images,videos....) files via bluetooth,

    4. Can't use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)
    5. No copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a.... say.... email & send it....have to type it out yourself)

    6. No 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i've ever seen..... photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)

    7. No video recording with camera,

    8. No front camera,

    9. No flash.

    10. No JAVA support

    11. No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker...touch keyboard as good as it looks...once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)

    12. No 3G network yet in India..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services ... so, for India, iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version

    13. No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!...This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)

    14. No haptic feedback

    15. Cannot send MMS,

    16. Can’t use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend's house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc...sorry you cannot connect your '16 GB' phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. " BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE "..... Give me a break will you APPLE!!!)

    17. No FM radio,

    18. Can’t use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)

    19. Cannot insert any other SIM card….

    20. Completely tied to iTunes... Connect to your friend's iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.
    list goes on & on & on….

    Default Gps

12 i knw is no longer a truth... I was going thru an article in a magazine related to GPS in India... It is still not that efficient. They tried to find their ways to Chandni Chowk (Parantha Gali) using only GPS. GPS system made them go round n round before showing final destination.

(So it is not that easy as it is shown in ad wherein arrows from all sides show ways )

But then to be optimistic, we got a start

Can’t use as external storage device and Cannot send MMS highs of sh*ting

I dun knw why but I am kinda allergic to this "Use n Throw" concept.

But still nice update for those who would compromise with the Chinese version of iphone.

For me I will go for some other model.

    Thanx neways

I am kind of scared of buying any pocket pc now.... in some way or other they lacks in basic functionalities of a mobile phone. Like we listed dozens for apple iphone.

I have an O2 XDA IIi Pocket PC + Phone. There are no such restrictions on Windows Mobile based phones. However, (as with any Windows OS), the phone needs to be rebooted after two/three days (it hangs).

Another minor glitch (with all PDA phones) is low ringer volume. In a crowded place such as a shopping mall, you often miss a call because you don't hear it. Since it must be carried/attached on to the hip, the vibrator also fails to catch your attention.

Sony W890i is a great device. Also comapre the same with Nokia N series products. Sony phones have a better camera but Nokia phone have everything else better. I feel that lack of support for external SD card is a slight disappointment. I will definitely feel hampered because 26 MB internal memory is not big enough considering the high-res camera and music capability.

But before anything analyse whether you really need a this phone. While, it will be great to flaunt the device in public, it is your money that is paying. If you really can justify the need, then sure go ahead.

Hey Vivnutty......No offense but this is my explanation to ur mail.....

    1. The 3G iphone does have video calling..

    2. A2DP support is not present but file transfer is possible via WiFi...which i think is the future of file transfer....however if u want to transfer files via bluetooth Brando sells an adapter....

    3. I think the above xplanation answers ur query

    4. Generally ppl connect their phone on the PC to view files in a larger size...but the iphone provides u a good browser....and u can download n e thing u want in the browser....

    5. yes copy and paste is true.....u cannot do that...

    6. As for the knowledge i have on cameras...a 2MP camera is the best for a Mobile phone...as without the Lens the Mp is of no use.....the camera gives as good a result for the 2MP it possess...

    7. Video recording is possible....with 3rd party softwares....

    8. Front camera on phone is for video calling...this is present on the 3g iphone..

    9. No flash.......in daylight the camera gives very gud quality pics...

    10. No java ....but with the iphone SDK releasing all ur java support will not be needed...

    11. The iphone keyboard is good but u have to get used to it.....we ppl generally like a hard keyboard...its true....

    12. With 3G coming in india...ur this problem will be solved....but wait till ur jaws drop...with 3g plans wen they come out....

    13. No replacable batteries is because apple didnt want ppl to use Duplicate ones....

    14. I really dont know how many phone have got this feature....

    15. Third party applications allow u to send MMS as well...

    16. This is utter rubbish ......who says u cant use the iphone as a USB device....yeah its not simpler like the normal phones...but u can....itunes supports u adding downloaded mp3's on ur phone...even videos is possible ...

    17. With places getting WiFi'd FM listening is possible thru internet...u can add ur fav sations....

    18. u cannot use ur existing files as ringtones...this is bcos the iphone doesnt support ringtone longer than 30 secs.....so cut ur song for 30 secs and then add ur ringtone....this support for adding ringtones is in itunes itself....

    19. This ones been solved long ago..

    20. Try using iphone PC suite....u can do a lot more things wid ur iphone....And Swap tunes allows u tp sync ur iphone wid 2 itunes.....

I on a personal note wud like to add this...

The iphone is a great phone if u own one....
I bought the phone in Oct 2007 for 250$(4gb)
i guess no phone offers u all the features the iphone has in that cost..
as for the drawbacks...the iphone does have a lower sound thru its speakers.... but the sound thru the headphones is awesome...
U have to play around wid the phone to know about all these features.....
And just a mail should not de spirit u to but The iphone...

I really wonder how much ppl have lost out by not buying the iphone....
Now just wait for the phone to be launched in india.
The prices are only going to kill u....
U can PM me for n e clarifications....

    Adios..

Yes, it can be jailbroken, but jalibraking allows you to just install third party apps which are not official/approved by Apple. Unlocking iPhone 3G is yet to come, but I heard it is possible whith SIM adapters.

I'm using first gen iPhone 16GB running on 2.0.2 firmware which I bought from US and unlocked. It's a great pleasure to play with. Lots of useful apps and funky games are available via App store and some of them are free. I've tried some free apps and I must say they are awesome.

When I was in USA some months ago, I borrowed my friend's i-phone for two day. My opinions are:

    a) As a device - fabulous
    b) As a phone - less than average; even Nokia 1110 is a better phone
    c) Camera - OK

    Best feature - finger scroll
Worst feature - no Wi-fi and locked to provider
