Default BSNL EVDO Teracom - SSL Sites are not working properly

    Hi

I am having trouble with gmail, facebook, netbanking with my bsnl evdo modem.
It is working good with other normal websites.

play.google.com will open. If i click any link there, it wont load.
Netbanking will open. If i press login, it wont respond.
Gmail is showing loading and it hangs there.

    Other sites are loading normally.

Please someone help to fix it.
I have updated to opendns and google dns.
Right now using google dns. No use so far.

Should i try any bsnl dns? I m from Tamilnadu

    Thanks

Secure pages are not loading on your browser from what I understand and DNS does not have much to do with it.

Please let me know which operating system you are using and which browser.

First of all run the system file checker tool as described here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

Please post the results here if there are any errors.

You mentioned that pages load find on your friend's bsnl broadband, is that using the same computer?

I am using EVDO on my laptop. I checked my friend's broadband on my same laptop.
Unfortunately i am not able to test the evdo on my friend's computer.

Because EVDO is not having enough signal there.
But i have tried this eVDO on another laptop. Same problem

    Scan is running.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

I dont know how to fix it..
    I don't have 8.1

Laptop came with 8 and upgraded to 8.1 from store.
My friend has windows 8 iso

    I fixed the problem.
    I restored the system.

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
    (c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Now i tried to login amazon

I opened "https://www.amazon.in/ap/signin?_encoding=UTF8..." It is https. But it opened. After i entered my login detail, It didn't load.
This is what happens with all the https site. The first link of https loads, then it wont load any other links.

    This webpage is not available
The connection to www.amazon.in was interrupted.

    It is from google chrome.

Did you reboot? It would get repaired automatically. The run the test again to check if its error free.

Another thing I would like you to check is to go to internet options then go to the advanced tab and see if TLS1, SSL 2 and SSL 3 are all ticked/turned on.

I have myself upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1pro but the default settings had no issues with SSL sites.

Another problem could be your date and time on the computer. It has been seen that after an upgrade it can get messed up. Select your correct time zone and correct the date and time. It has to match on the server you are accessing and your computer else the encryption system will take it as a hack attempt.

Another check I would suggest is to turn off the firewall for a min and check with firewall turned off and see if it works so we know its not the firewall which is causing trouble.

Yes I did the reboot and scanned the system again with sfc. No error.
    It 16 oct 2014 11:55pm timezone is +5.30.

I turned of firewall and disabled avast and it is still the same problem.

    SSL2.0 is not ticked

    ssl3 is ticked
    tls 1.0,1.1.,1.2 are all ticked.

How do i check these setting in google chrome?

First just check SSL2.0 too and check in whatever browser you are doing it for, I guess IE. Lets get one thing working first.

This is where you will find settings in Chrome : chrome://settings/

You have to type that in the address bar in Chrome. If you cant find the settings there please let me know and I will give it a try in the morning.

You mentioned you have not installed optional updates. I am not sure if Silverlight has to do anything with it but I have it. Also Adobe flash player could be one reason.

with bsnl evdo the ping is very high.thats why website surfing experience is not good when it is compared with downloading speed.

What does he mean? Is it possible to fix if this is the case?

Ping or latency is the time your internet connection takes for sending a packet to the remote server and then back. If this process completes in 100ms then you can say latency for so and sol server is 100ms.

For a SSL connection every website has a time limit to complete the transaction/handshake. Any website you open that has SSL then it would take 4 to 7 round trips of packets before your computer starts downloading the actual page and servers have a set time limit for all this to happen. I run a few websites with SSL and I have set it to 2.5 seconds so that kind of plays a spoil sport for those people who have a latency greater then 600-700ms to my servers.

The above could be the case with you too. I would suggest trying your evdo modem with some one elses computer/laptop and see if the problem persists.

Also please post your latency to www.indiabroadband.net so I can get an idea how bad/good it is and if latency is playing spoil sport.

I guess it would be easier using a router and connecting using wifi or lan cable. Finding drivers for linux is a pain. I am not sure if there is one available.
