There is now an upgraded version of the Motorola Moto G. With the upgraded version there are two difference one that the memory is now expandable of up to 32Gb using a microSD card and also that the phone is also 4G LTE compatible.

Obviously with the extra features the cost is more as well, and the upgraded version of Motorola Moto G is Rs15499.

Both phones are quite similar, apart from a few additional features and better specifications in the Moto G phone.

Additional features in the Moto G phone include:

A secondary camera which is 1.3 mega pixels
Screen size of the Moto G is 4.5 inches where as the Moto E screen size is 4.3 inches
Moto G has a quad core processor where as the Moto E has a dual core processor
OS wise the Moto E is better as it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and Moto G runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean

I heard there were problems with the Moto G, which were rectified by the company. Now the phone is Rs2000 cheaper than before. I have not looked into this phone in great detail but it is a phone of great competition.

There are so many brands who launched mobile phones to compete with the Moto G phone, I can't quite recall which all phones they were but there were quite a few. Its shame about the phone problems other wise the Moto G would have been a success.

I got one at Rs 13,999 last month. Pretty good VFM. Now even better, price is reduced to Rs 11,999.
OS is also getting upgraded to 4.4.4. Only issue is lack of SD card slot. So get 16GB version only.

Flipkart has removed this phone from their site and instead have the Moto G2.

What is the craze for this phone, it is supposed to be very popular, either it is something I am missing or something which I do not have knowledge about. I want to gift a phone to my someone, so if I knew more about it it would be better.

Has anyone on the forum used the Moto G phone? Is it worth buying for someone who is just going to make call, and use Facebook and WhatsApp?

I'm an old user of a Motorola Moto G XT1033 dual SIM variant, and I really loved that masterpiece. The display was the main aspect of the phone and it gave some serious competition to its rivals. The 4.5" 720p display was a perfect combination of size and colour reproduction. The display quality was top class and produced some crisp, bright and natural colours. The processor of this phone handled almost everything I threw at it. Though I,m not a gaming freak, still I would say this phone can handle most of the heavy games. The 5 mp camera was also good considering the price tag at that time and clicked some good shots in the daylight, however, low light images were not so good to be honest. My experience was very good using a Motorola phone after a long time. I have really become a fan of Motorola phones since then.

While I haven't used the Moto G I would imagine that just for the basic functions of making calls, messaging and basic internet use it would be more than adequate as most smartphones are these days.

@pwarbi It would definitely handle all those above mentioned tasks effortlessly. Trust me, its meant for much more things and heavy tasking isn't a problem for this phone as well. I enjoyed using Moto G and, I used it for all sorts of tasks. Be it gaming, imaging or multi-tasking, the Moto G handles all these things quite smoothly.

I was answering the post from @Shivam who was asking what it was like with those features.

Like I said even though I haven't used the phone the specification suggested to me that it would be able to handle everything a modern day smartphone would, but as you've used one then it's good to get that confirmed.

This phone was the best seller in Brazil. Because it started with a very low cost and a very interesting configuration. Currently, its third version is not selling well because of the it increased rates on mobile devices.

The cost of the device was always going to get it well received by the public, as it came in to the market a lot cheaper than it's competitors.

Motorola played the game quite well as I they knew they couldn't compete with Apple and Samsung, so they did the next best thing, and tried to compete with HTC and LG instead.

When it comes to design, the new Moto G delivery that is part of Moto line with that very basic visual identity, however beautiful, which was adopted by the brand last year. Casting is now larger and the screen came half an inch on its diagonal. It was 4,5 '' to 5 '. Overall, it has a tight body and spends a good sense of quality in the footprint.
