The very first mobile phone I had back in the day was a Motorola and it lasted me a long time. While they've obviously improved a lot since them days, I still think they can't match the devices that are around now, the Samsung's and the HTC for example.

I'd think the only reason to choose a Motorola device above the others would be the cost, as they don't tend to be as expensive as the others.

samsung has just recently improved (with exynos and all), else its touchwiz was an experience-marring load. this was about the software part. hardware-wise, samsung still makes robust phones.
the recent offerings from motorola have been superb, and the likes of unnecessarily costly phones like those of HTC, etc. don't stand much near. motorola x-play is now the recent offering here. service too is better than most brands. also, the vanilla android offering on its phones is a big plus that's not available in many other phones!

I think Motorola is slowly revamping their products and services for good. Yes, as already mentioned by @MegaMaverick their new family member Moto X Play can definitely offer sleepless nights to their competitors in market. It got an excellent 1080x1920 display powered by 1.7 GHz processor with 2B RAM in place. I am sure its 21 mega pixel rear camera will attract more customers towards it. It boasts of a good battery life and improved camera features. But it lacks water resistance and does not score in low light camera performance.

I think what Motorola lacks these days is effective advertising. I believe they need to show some domination in marketing their products as their competitors do.

To be honest, Motorola is back with a bang in the smartphone league. I'm a current user of Motorola Moto X Play and it's truly a beast. It performs amazingly well in each and every department. A 21 megapixel camera, 1.7ghz Snapdragon 615 processor, 5.5" 1080P display and a price tag of 18,499 INR is overall a very good deal to me. Rest of the Motorola devices are also doing pretty good in the market and the recent entrant in the budget segment, Moto G 3rd gen is also selling in huge numbers.

A lot of the Motorola devices are competitively priced but I think they have still got a 2nd rate image when compared to other brands, and while Apple and Samsung dominate the market, even brands like HTC and LG have moved ahead of Motorola and I'm not sure if any amount of advertising will be able to get them back in the game, so to speak.

Motorolla is excellent these days! The 2nd generation Moto G a.k.a Moto G2 is probably one of the most cost efficient phones which is also pretty decent. It is equivalent to a Google Nexus and provides a lot of features. My dad uses his Moto G2 and he's been spellbound so far. Motorolla is doing amazing!

While I'm not sure that I'd go as far as to say they're amazing, I do think they're doing a lot better than what most people would expect.

For a brand that doesn't advertise or promote its products half as much as the larger companies, they do seem to be able to hang on to a section of the market, and that can only be down to the quality of the devices.

Like many folks, my first phone was a Motorola and it was great. It lasted me a long time but it was quite large. It barely fit into my back pocket since it was a second generation GSM phone. The second Motorola phone that I bought was the Motorola Razr which was all the rage when it was first launched. Definitely a quality phone, but eventually Motorola fell out of favor with consumers.

I have never bought a Motorola smart phone. However, I'm hearing good things about them and the company is known for making reliable products. These days I'm more enthralled with the OnePlus range. But I'd give Motorola another go if there were not so many alternatives in the market.

Motorola is doing very good in the present time, and all of its users are very satisfied using their new smartphones, including me. I think Motorola is now focussing more on the budget category smartphones, instead of going with premium ones and that's a very good thing for Indian people.
Motorola will be having a strong hold in the smartphone market in future, seeing their new line-up of smartphones and a good start.

It has been the world market leader in the era of analog cell phones and today remains as a major in the Brazilian market with popular devices. However, Motorola prices are expensives. Motorola Moto X Style is as expensive as Samsung Galaxy S6. So, it is better to buy a Samsung Galaxy than Moto X Style.
