    Default Tethering to pc

    Hi

How do I tether my mobile (with MTNL 3G activated) to my pc. I use mtnl as username and mtnl123 as password and dial *99# but it gives me the following error-The PPP link control protocol was terminated. I have even pasted at+cgdcont=1,"ip","pps3g" in the Extra initialisation command of the modem.

I can connect using regular GPRS APN settings but not 3G though the phone shows a 3G signal!

    Thanks

I use Nokia N900. It supports HSPA and upto 10mbps download speed.

I connect via wire. When I fill in the APN for GPRS, it works but not when I fill in the APN for 3G or HSPA. The customer care of MTNL has been of no use. Aunties pick up the phone and they don't even know the difference between Edge and 3G.

assuming that you are using prepaid service use "ppshsdpa" in the initialisation command instead of "pps3g"

Thanks. I had used these settings. It works when the apn is gprsppsdel and I get speeds of around 300-400kbps (kilobits). but not in case of other apns. Read somewhere that thats the average for MTNL Delhi 3G and if you want higher you ll have to separately get HSDPA activated. That shoots the speed upto more than 1 Mbps but the speed is still capped.

I think I ll go for some other 3G service. MTNL is too much trouble!

I am using MTNL Delhi 3G service since Nov 2009 and I get around 1 to 1.5 mbps speeds on an average.
Are you able to get 3G speeds when browsing on your handset?

    ^^^
    No.
But the SIM was a new one specifically branded as a 3G SIM, taken when 3G was launched.

Same here. I called up the customer care and the aunties told me that on mobile you ll get 300-400kbps speed only. For more than 1 Mbps speed get a datacard!

I just got 3G activated on my airtel sim card and at the moment it works on the 98Rs 2G plan! 3G speeds on 2G plan! Yipee! Lets see how long it lasts!

Activate HSDPA service by sending SMS 'ACT HSDPA' to '444'. Activation charges of Rs.449/- will be deducted from prepaid account, make sure you have enough balance!
