    Talking Help Needed!! Multiple Queries..

    Hello everyone,
First of all congrats to those whose are getting high speeds on MTNL 3G connection.

By visiting various forums and knowing about the speeds of MTNL 3G i decided to get myself an MTNL SIM. I will be using this SIM for unlimited internet on my laptop and sometimes phone. Currently i am using this SIM in my phone Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I almost get 2 bars of the signal inside my home. But when i go near the door, the signal strength gets maximum. Now i have two questions:

    1. I am planning to buy a datacard for using internet on my laptop, as i get low signal strength of 3G in my home, will i be able to get good signal if i use my SIM in a datacard? If no, then i will not use this SIM and stick to my broadband connection.

    2. Please suggest me which datacard to buy? I am very confused between Huawei K4505, Huawei E373. If you have some other suggestions, please comment. I wanna be future proof, and will buy a more expensive datacard with higher speed.

P.S. I will be using internet on my laptop, which usually stays at home. Any suggestions are most welcome.

as far as I'm concerned .. u should go for Huawei UMG 1831 . coz many people have already claimed that Huawei K4505 has some overheating issue.
apart from that UMG 1831 has good customer review till date even after launch of K4505 .. rest is up to u. or let's see what other members say

If signal is low in the phone,it will not be better in data card. Phones have better chipsets compared to rs 2000 worth data cards.

Buy minimum 7.2 mbps card.(Doubt MTNL going to give more than 3-4 mbps at best) Average price Rs 1700-1800 .Huawei e173 is sold as low as Rs 1426 in web stores.
But since signal is a problem, may be buy data card with antennae facility ( rs 800 extra).like UMG 1831 or Huawei 353 (Rs 2400-2200)

Avoid Operator locked modems of MTNL and others. Iam using E1750 and getting 4-5 mbps easily from Airtel and also from Vodafone in Hyd and Chennai.
A ready comparison Product Comparison: Huawei E1750 (7.2 mbps) VS Huawei 1750C-7.2 Mbps DL & 5.76 UL Speed VS Huawei E173-7.2 Mbps with video call VS Huawei UMG 1831 (21.1 mbps)

Money is not a constraint for purchasing a datacard, provided i get the best 3g speeds in my home. I bought SIM first just to check the signal strength inside my home. I am planning to buy a datacard with external antennae but i am confused if antennae really helps in boosting the signal strength.
Also tell me what should i do to get HSDPA speeds on my phone. I am currently getting only 1-1.2Mbps. Thanks!

I was thinking of getting K4505 as its speed can be upgraded to 28.8Mbps by flashing it with the latest firmware. But i dunno anything about its performance.

Iam not sure your Nokia phone is 3.5G. Keep it as a spare and get an android.
You dont know what you are missing. Cheapest good Android LGp500 around 9.5 k or so .
K4505 is almost the same price of UMG 1831 nowadays. But it gets hot. It's performance has been documented by a gentleman from chennai. See BSNL 3G threads from April or so. You will see documentation about K4505.
I have one 3.6 and one 7.2 card. I was thinking of buying latest E353 .But it seems it does not work below 2100 mhz which is a problem. If the network speed drops ,353 will freeze & you have to insert the other card.
having used bull **** BSNL for 6 months ,I doubt you will get 2-3 mbps continously in MTNL!!. So 7.2 mbps card is sufficient. But since the price difference is not much ,get UMG 1831 -proven performance in Indian terrain.

My phone is 3.5G capable. I easily get 2.5-3Mbps on my Vodafone 3G. But for MTNL, its network connection sucks! I never get more than 3 bars inside my home. The main question is if i buy a datacard UMG1831 or any other, will i be able to get stronger 3G signals inside my home or not? Otherwise i will have to stick with my MTNL broadband.

yes .. of course .. if u go for UMG 1831 it has antena slit. in that u can insert some makeshift rounded copper cable (preferably solenoid type coil) then u will get better reception. ..

if u have no clue how to make it.. i will suggest u to visit any electrical instrument shop and ask them to give u a Solenoid type coil .. or if u have any Radio or Transistor @ ur home that is not in use open it up with screw driver n u will find inside the cabinet a Black Carbon Rod rounded with fine copper wire. Get that out ...and insert its one end to the antena slit..n another end to ur window or wherever u want to keep it. . .

but i will suggest u to bring one from Electrical shop ..

or if they can't give u Solenoid coil.. u just bring copper wire .. take a 2'' diameter round wooden material .. turn the copper wire around that wooden block .. n if u r done making turns of wire remove the wooden piece .. now u have a coil of copper with two free terminals ... take some connecting wires a tie up its one end to the wire n insert it inside the antena slit .. n place the coil on the window ..

Yes .. only thing u need to do is "just bundle the wire but not cluster them up over one another rather wind them on a 5-10 cm long cylindrical wooden piece and once u are done winding remove the wooden material and insert its one terminal into antenna slit"

take a picture of your makeshift antennae and post it thro "tinypic " site upload.
Right now now I have 3.6+ 7.2 data cards with no antennae provision.
Soon I have to buy 21 mbps data card -
going to be UMG 1831 as Huawei 353 (though latest) does not work below 2100 mhz.
K4505 (now price as low as Rs 2500-2800) though upgradeable to 28 mbps or so -gets hot I heard. so might play safe with UMG 1831.
BSNL signal is poor in the house.so this trick could be useful.
others who have improvised antennae in your data card ,kindly post picture.

Hey all, i have created a windsurfer antennae for my UMG1831. It works perfectly and i have gained about 18dB signal strength through it . You can easily watch videos on youtube for making that antennae.
