Thread: MTNL router Login weirdness

I have a MTNL 256 Unlimited 599 plan. I got it a week ago, speeds were pathetic (4 - 5 KBps) since the begining. When I complained they told me it was due to the undersea cable cut. But the funny thing was at times I got speeds of upto 300 KBps. I tried logging in to the router (HG 520).. this is where the story gets weird. Most of the times, when the speed is slow, when i login to 192.168.1.1 it takes me to a page (with purple background etc) where I can change the settings etc. On the account settings page though it has a phone number for username which is different than mine. But when I'm getting high speeds suddenly, i try logging in to 192.168.1.1, it takes me to another set up page (TrendChip setup page, the one with orange banners). Has someone encountered such problems? Is this related to the undersea cable cut or is my modem crap? Thanks ppl.

I tweaked around a bit.. I think I'm able to login to the gateway.. when this happens, the speed is SLOW.. but otherwise when 192.168.1.1 is pointing to my router, the speeds high.. I dont know how the hell I can access a gateway.. I can clearly see all the credentials there.. I could restart or reset the system if I wanted to.. Has this been happening with anyone else?

I do not understand what you are trying to say, can you please be more specific which gateway you are talking about and how can you access that coz all the gateway's are sceured by username and password.

if your modem router is not showing your username or phone number then please contact MTNL support to get it changed to your one coz its illegal and wrong to use any other's username/phone number to connect.

for slow speed issue first get your correct login details from MTNL and then please check physical setup of your broadband and do check what is the MSR (Maximum Stable Rate) you can gain on your line, ask MTNL for a line check.

Did u access your neighbours wifi modem. If no, then There is something wrong in your modem , you cant get 2 different pages when you login to your modem. Also MTNL has port binding feature , so the username has to be ur telephone no, else u cant use the internet . Pls call 1504 or register a complaint to get your modem replaced. Are u in a network & are accessing the modem through another pc ? . Is ur pc infected with viruses or stuff which may have altered your computer hosts file (pls get ur pc scanned for virus & get a firewall too to block & detect changes in ur hosts file)

I'm pretty sure that is the gateway.. it has an option which says "Update Gateway firmware" or something.. and about username/password... as you know almost all of the govt routers etc are always secure with default passwords.. i was once able to login to the Delhi wifi router just using the default password..
Basically there's an IP conflict... my router and the gateway share the same IP 192.168.1.1 ... so I resolved it by using 192.168.2.1 for my router...
I was refused connection two months ago stating technical difficulties.. (since my house is around 3 Km from the gateway)... but now they have made some arrangements... and I think I'm the only guy using that gateway.. so there's this conflict.. not sure...
But its resolved now... but still that gateaway is very accessible to me using default passwords....
