Please check ur phone line , the modem shouldnt take that long to connect.
Log in @ 192.168.1.1 & check your adsl connection status.
Also ensure that no downloads are going on in the background on your pc.
    Try switching to open dns i.e. 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220

You can change your dns settings to open dns by visiting your routers settings page ( 192.168.1.1 ). In the settings page click on WAN tab (see router manual if you cant find this tab ,to know how to change dns servers or make a forum search) & enter the dns server address given above. Now save your settings. ( click apply button )

Changing to OpenDNS won't increase download speed. But it will speed up website loading.

    Exclamation

keshav the speeds you have been getting were because of a glitch in the mtnl system it has also happened with me.... when you take a 256kbps ul plan for the 1st month mtnl may or may not provide you with a 200Kbps+ bandwith ... it is kinda sad although you can switch to another plan....:4::4::yawn::yawn::36::36:
