Default Am I the only one facing this Problem???

    Hi there,
This is my first post, so please excuse my mistakes. OK here is my story. I activated my MTNL TriBand in the month of July'08. I started with 849NU, I was so impressed with the TriBand speed that very next month I changed my plan to 256UL. This plan costed me 2500/- per month but since I am a heavy downloader, I didnt mind. It worked excellent till Oct'08. No matter whenever I connect internet, it used to give me a very good download speed. I always used to get 150-180KBPS in days and 210KBPS in nights (early morning). I have had used Cable Net so I know the importance of good speed. MTNL TriBand made a BIG difference.
Life was beautiful, speed was excellent, everything was just going fine. Then, the month of November, changed everything to me. Somewhere in the first week of November, my download speed went down to somewhere 18-20KBPS. Hhhhmmmmm, thats not good, but I made myself understand that this is one of a case, maybe bandwidth is not availble and all, blah blah blah. But it never crossed 18-20KBPS after November during days. In night sometimes it used to go about 200KBPS but again in days it used to go down drastically.
I thought maybe my system has a virus or something like that. I scanned it, formatted it, reinstalled windows (even recent version). No Go. No matter whatever I do, in days it never used to cross 18-20KBPS. As I said I am a very heavy downloader so it was really disgusting. Nevertheless, I thought maybe my router is creating problem (by the way I have a D-Link 502T-GLB, not from MTNL). I took a router from one of my friends and checked, same speed, not even a 1KBPS speed difference.
After November, life was bit difficult but I was counting on MTNL's Service. I never had to call these guys before so I was under the impression that my concern will be given first priority. I was day dreaming. Called MTNL and they have only 4 Answers. 1. Reboot the modem, 2. Create a new connection, 3. Check line with the line-man and 4. Main line should end at modem first. Almost every agent there have memorized this (even me now). I can almost predict what they are going to say when called. I even visited the local telephone exchanged and launched a complain about this.
I have been very patient with them. I rarely loose my temper. After complaining since November, last week a guy came from MTNL and checked line. He did some fill in the blanks very quickly and went. I thought he will call back and will update me about this but nothing. I called them again and complained. Couple of times, some MTNL guys called up and assured me that this will be fixed. For couple of days they kept calling me and updated me about this. Finally they told me that my speed problem is from the main server not within the line.
As I said atleast in nights I was still getting 130-150KBPS. So, I used to do most of the downloads early morning like 3-4 am to 9 am. But eversince MTNL guys worked on this, now I am not even getting this speed in nights also. Now maximum speed that I get during night is 50-52KBPS, during days I get only 10-12KBPS. Last week of December I changed my plan from 256UL to 512UL (1599/- revised plan). They called up after few days and said that my 512UL plan is been activated and I can use it now. But never mind, I still have the same speed. Not even a single KB improvement.
Things have changed now. Everybody has a routine like, eating, sleeping, playing games, going out with friends etc. But for me calling MTNL twice a day is in my routine.
1500 HelpLine is HelpLess. 1504 Tech Support Team should go through a technical training. Local exchange/line-man has a very good practice of blaming server problem. Server guys never called up, not even a single time to show sympathy.
By the way did I mention that 1504 guys gave me one number 24361221 and said call server guys to re-configure speed from their end. Its been 2 months that I try this number everyday but never had an opportunity to talk to someone from other end, either its engage or always ringing.
I know this is a very long story but whatever I have gone through is nothing. I dont have words to express my frustration. I dont know what would happen now coz nobody is taking responsibility. I would really appreciate if anybody could write atleast a few line for me. Atleast I will feel better.
Any suggestions, solutions, tips & tricks would be highly appreciated.

My Dear Friend, lot of people have faced these troubles with MTNL. If u search the forum you will know this.

My suggestion is go to your telephone exchange and try to meet people and get ur problem resolved. These MTNL guys dont believe in telephonic conversations. U will have to go the exchange a few times and tell them to change your speed according to the new plan.

By the way can u post the speedtest results from mtnl site as well as speedtest.net and also your data rate from your modem.

Thank you for your reply ckranjan2,
I have been to local exchange couple of times. They have only promises, they only assure that it will be fixed and someone will come to resolve this. However its been more than 2 months now.
Now I am doubting on MTNL's technical capabilities. Anywayz I am posting the speed test from speedtest.net, I hope this will give you some idea about my speed.

    Hi ckranjan2,
When you say "Data Rate", do you mean the connectivity speed it shows when you open your router's main page???
If not please tell me how to find the Data Rate?
I know nothing about APPELLATE AUTHORITY and/or NODAL OFFICER, please guide me. I would really appreciate.

yes i am talking about the data rate from the modem.

app. auth. and nodal off. are tobe contacted when normal complaints and customer care fails to solve ur problems. They have a definite time limits to solve your problems. If they also fail then only option u have is to go to consumer courts.

Please check the mtnl website to get the contacts for these authorities. Also call the helpline to check for the same.

Also keep all the complaint no.s ready.

looks like MTNL people have forgot to upgrade your upload speed, also will get back with contact no.s

Please get your phone line checked from your mtnl lineman and ur internal home wiring and splitter( a lot of times bad splitter can cause the problem. To check the splitter problem try directly connecting the MTNL line to your modem.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the reply my friend. How can you say MTNL forgot to upgrade the speed??? If this the problem then I will be in a great mess because MTNL guys are claiming that my speed has changed from 256 to 512KBPS. Strange. Isnt it?
The MTNL guy checked the line and said there is no problem in the line. I never had a splitter connected to my main line. I have been using triband without splitter for months. Main line ends at d-link router and then there is another phone line going to the telephone instrument. When this problem started somebody suggested me like you to use a splitter. Now I have splitter connected. Main line is coming then there is a splitter inbetween then one line goes to the modem and another line goes to the telephone instrument. However, I didnt notice any change with the splitter or without the splitter. So I guess the problem is not with the line or either the splitter.
Today a guy called in from MTNL and said he will be working on this tomorrow. Lets hope he comes up with some solution. But anyways thanks for the advise and please get the contact nos.

    Thank you,

    Maqsood

    Hi ckranjan,
    Hey brother, Good News!!!
I guess my issue is fixed. Before 2 days a guy from MTNL called up and asked me about my problem. I explained to him that my internet is as good as dial up connection. He told me that they have tried all possible steps from there end and even spoke with the server people regarding my problem but they couldnt come up with any kind of solution. Moreover, he told me that there is only one option left. According to him MTNL have two lines for their consumer, one connected to Alcatel Server and another one is connected to Simens Server. Previously all consumers were connected to Simens Server, I guess because of over-load they came up with Alcatel Server so that they could distribute the users. All new connections are setup on Alcatel Server now, thats the reason we have @a after telephone number as our user name, indicating Alcatel Server. User name without @a is still connected to Simens Server. Mine was connected to Alcatel Server. They explained me that they are going to connect me on Simens Server to figure out whether the problem is with the line or the server. It took almost an hour or two to switch the line. Then they called up and told me that go into your router's setup and remove the @a from the user name and apply the changes.
I did what they asked me to do and believe it or not, it boosted my internet speed all of a sudden. When I checked my router's configuration it was previous showing me 256/512 speed rate. After this changes, its now showing 260/2045 speed rate.
I am posting an attachment also, this is what I am getting during day-time.
I am really happy now. I can download at maximum speed now.
Thank you so much to IndiaBroadband and offcourse you ckranjan for replying to my queries.
Anyone having this kind of problem, I guess you can call MTNL and give them some extra work and ask them to change the server from Alcatel to Simens and that should fix the problem.
    Thank you once again.

Are your usages being recorded properly? I read in another forum that users connected to the Siemens had problems in their account usages being displayed improperly. Please check that too.

Please read carefully the post which u have quoted. It is clearly stated in that post the transfer of his account from siemens sever to alcatel server and then back to siemens server.

I mean to say changing of router or modem configuring, don't say about sever change or etc.

I repeat. Has the poster stated anything about changing the configurations of the modem/router? No. He complained to MTNL and they did some server hopping. And as a direct result of it his downstream and upstream speeds started showing correctly in the modem.

    Hey People,
I didnt do any configuration change in the Modem/Router. The MTNL guys did the changes. They switched my main line from Alcatel Server to Simens Server. I dont know but this fixed my problem, there are others still connected to Alcatel Server and getting very good speed. I am not sure why my internet was dead on Alcatel Server.
Nevertheless, its working fine now. I dont have any problem with MTNL guys right now. Infact the very next day I went to the MTNL office and thanked the incharge about this. That guy gave me a very wiered look, I guess nobody said "Thanks" to him in his tenure.
If somebody facing this sort of problem maybe you can ask the MTNL guys to try switching the line from one server to another and that should take care of the problem.
    Thank you again.
