Default Slowness of MTNL DNS Servers

Websites are taking a lot longer than usual to load, so i checked the ping stats for DNS servers of MTNL. I am attaching it herewith. Please respond what do u think of these stats.

    Are they normal?

    Pls comment.

U mean browsing speed or downloading speed? DNS servers only increase the browsing speed.

Well, i want to make sure that alternate DNS servers are always faster than MTNL DNS servers.

A have read alot of times that some isp servers are faster than open DNS. That why wanted people to comment, on the ping stats

Yes u are correct. ISPs DNS is the fastest. But the problem is that these guys do not allocate much infrastructure for DNS addressing. Hence slowing down.

Do not let the ping results fool u. DNS resolution is partly dependent upon the amount of load the DNS machine is subjected to/capable of. And this is one the major reasons for MTNL,BSNL DNS servers to be slow. Loads of users connected to a particular DNS. But OpenDNS uses dedicated servers all around the globe for speedy DNS resolution.

I am with BSNL. I was using OpenDNS and I was getting slow speeds. So just for checking I changed to BSNL's default DNS. And the speedtest.net results jumped from 300~1200 kbps (with open DNS) to 1800~2000 kbps (with BSNL DNS).

So my results are quite contrary. I have a thread somewhere on this.

^^ DNS resolution just speeds up the browsing. Am wondering how the overall speeds increased. This post is tempting me to try the default DNS of BSNL.

Well my browsing speed definitely increased. Torrent speeds remained the same as expected. This is because once the connection is eastablished DNS plays no part in downloading.

Yes , BSNL DNS servers can be the fastest at times , faster than opendns . But it tends to get overloaded too often hence sometimes making browsing a pain.. and also after the recent DNS poisoning issue , its risky to stay with bsnl dns servers..
