    Try disabling UPnP port mapping and NAT-PMP port mapping in the utorrent preferences. U can find the above mentioned under Connections tab in utorrent 1.8.1

    Try downloading from private tracker they give speed ;

    On public tracker u can expect 40-210KB/s speed.

    Refer portforwarding[dot]com for forwarding port.Bwt

    For temp Boost put port as 80 and check speed
    80 is your browser port ...

    Smile It sorted

    Hey Guys

    Thanks for your help , i have used port forward to do it on the router and now as i can see its sorted .
    Just one more thing that i was wondering , when mtnl says they are giving you 256 kbps unlimited does it mean that is the maximum you will get or is it supposed to be the minimum download speed with maximum being something else.

    Thanks once again guys for your help

    this is what i know -> if they say they are providing 256kbps and not UPTO 256kbps, your average speed should be 256kbps or a bit more/less over a period of time. this can be tested in case of downloads. the max speed at any given moment may cross 256 kbps. but the average remains 256. but if its an UPTO 256kbps connection - then nothing can be said. i got exactly this thing clarified with tata indicom customer care about a year ago when i faced some speed problems for a few days.
