    Smile Reduce Attenuation

    Hi guys

Yet another thing which i thought would be worth asking, How can i reduce the attenuation levels which i am getting right now or may be an idea to improve SNR levels.
I am having fairly high attenuation at the moment and would love to know how can i reduce it.
You can say i am a bit obsessed with the idea of getting my connection to work as perfectly as possible. But if you know a thing or two to do the same please share it with me.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Attenuation is dependent upon the distance of the premise from the exchange. The more the distance, the larger will be the attenuation.

Verify the telephone lines for cracks, openings. For extra surety u can replace the telephone cabling of the premise for free from BSNL/MTNL.

    Use good quality splitter.

Varied modems show varied readings. My d-link modem shows my downstream snr as 33 while huawei modem shows the snr as 41 dB. So on the same line, different modems show different values.

    Cool

    Hey
Thanks for a quick reply cool techie tvm .So i guess there is nothing much which i can do about it .Just to give you a better idea of the current levels have a look at the image i have attached with this post.I mean the connection is working fine but i think it could be way much better if i can get those levels optimum.
Hope i can get something to do with this.

The downstream attenuation is very high. According to ::. Kitz - Max speed calculator .:: u are about 3.84kms from the exchange. Is that true?

    Hey techie
I am not sure what would be the distance of exchange from my place but the speed which i am getting tells a different story.I have attached an image with this post have a look.
The modem is set at adsl2+ and the speed which i am getting is good enough as compared to the distance which you have provided.
So do you think it would make any difference if i set it to G.DMT.
    Your input will be appreciated.Cheers

Dont get fooled by the speedtest results. Do a http download or torrent download and please state the speed u are getting. I have come across people posting 8mbps downstream speeds according to speedtest.net, but their real speed will be 256 kBps.

Let me share the speed test result I got...

So don't rely completely on online speed test results.

    Hey Guys
I guess it does make a difference when u do a http download test as you can see in the picture below. As visible i am getting download speed of 43 kB/sec which is around 356kbps mark.
I mean its really disappointing though but still ok as i am able to do pretty much all the things i want to with this speed.
How about you guys out there what sort of speeds you are getting, i mean if anyone of you has not taken a T1 with your service provider.
Anyways coming back to the topic so as now i am much more clear about the speed which i am getting i certainly would like you guys to help me clear my mind of this attenuation and SNR margin thing.
I mean can i do anything to get this attenuation thing down as its already reaching 53dB.Will it make any difference to the speed or not...

    Default Surprise !! Surprise!!

    Hey guys
Once again its all confusing as i have just started downloading a file today on utorrent and guess what the previous post of mine which say the speed is 43kBps has been proven wrong.
So here is the new speed limit which i can get out of a 256 kbps connection it seems.Have a look .Your input will be much appreciated.

    Thanks for all your posts.
Yes speed surges are common with BSNL/MTNL too but only when are messing up with the existing arrangement. Once the work is completed everything will be back to normalcy.

    U are welcome mate !!
