Thumbs up Anybody Providing Precious CPU cycles for Humanity

    Hi ALL

I believe everyone of you want to do some good for humanity.I am posting this thread to know if there are any other members from this community who are part of World Community Grid.
    In case if you don't know what is that have a look at this link;

The time it takes to download task and then only when the results are uploaded to the server. That is the only time it uses the bandwidth off your network.

The following settings can be controlled:
    • Memory Use
    • Processor Use
    • Disk Use
    • Bandwidth Use

Bandwidth use settings impact the following items:

In setting where there is limited bandwidth to the internet, these settings can be used to ensure the research applications do not prevent the user from accessing the internet

The following settings can be used to limit how much bandwidth space is used by the client:

Max KB/sec used for downloading workunit files

Max KB/sec used for uploading result files

I have heard about these utilities. They utilize the idle processing power to do calculations which are complex in nature. No ideas about the bandwidth though. They use the concept of grid computing.

    Hey techie
You are right they use grid computing.I am sure all of you know how it works but the thing which i want you to know is the only time your network will be utilized is once when you will download a work unit or a task and secondly when you will upload the results of that task to the server.

In between these two processes the only thing that will be used will be the cpu cycles and no network resource will be used by the client. Also as you can control when and how your system resources can be used ,i would say you have full control over the resources and as such its your wish how much resources you want to give the client when its working.

So I hope there will be some of you guys who will be giving those cpu cycles for such a worthy cause.

Downloaded the utility and started using it from today.

The initial utility had 8MB size and after installation it downloaded 15MB worth data from the server. I did all these during the free time. I had opted for all the available researches.

It uses 15-30MB max for whole day!
but your CPU usage would be around 100%

The data usage is plainly dependent upon the projects in hand. If we opt for less number of projects, the data transfer will be practically limited to less than 5MB.

The software downloads data and it needs time to process the mentioned data. An average of 10-12 hours are required for doing the same. Moreover 100% of the CPU cycle is not taken, it is restricted to 60%, which can again be restricted to less than 60%.

I would strongly suggest fellow board members to start using this, because India has just 7 members running the mentioned software.
