    Default Net Connection Problem

I have got a new BB connection from MTNL just this saturday. Unfortunately when the person had come for the installation i was not at home so could not check the same at that time.
Once i tried the connection when i got home i found that the connection was not working. Luckily the guy who had come for setting up the connection had left the number of a person to be contacted in case there was any problem. So i picked up the phone connected to the splitter to call up that person and voila the net connection started working. So i kept the phone down and once again the connection stopped working.
So now the situation is that the connection works each time the phone is off the cradle and stops working once it is hung up. I conveyed the same to the guy whose name was mentioned and he has promised to send someone over but god knows when that person will turn up.
Has anyone else faced this problem and if so whats the solution.

P.S. The direct line connection is going to the splitter and from the splitter one lead goes to the modem and the other one to the phone. So that is also ok.

    the splitter has three ports.
    1. line
    2. modem
    3. Phone

the cable from the incoming line should be plugged into LINE

the cable from modem should go to the Modem at a socket that has 2 pins (in WA3002-G1 it is called WAN

the third cable goes to phone instrument obviously

BTW what is the make and model number of the MODEM supplied to you?

    all the best.

The model is Sterlite Sam300 TMAX. (provided by MTNL)
The connections have been made as mentioned by you. But i am not sure if the ports are connected as mentioned by you. I thought either of the two ports (leaving aside the LINE port ) coud be connected to the phone or the modem.
I will have to check the splitter to find if the ports are marked as modem and phone on the splitter.
The problem here is that i can't do that until i get home (i am currently posting from office.)

    Thanks

When you reach home today, check the following:

    a) The splitter is a rectangular box. It has one female (RJ11) port on one side and two female (RJ11) ports on the opposite side.

    b) The single port is marked as LINE. The wire from wall socket should be connected here.

    c) The twin ports on the opposite side are marked as MODEM and PHONE. Connect the modem and phone to the respective ports.

Thanks a lot J4k. Will put this to good use.
One more question though if the connections are as mentioned by you then what could be the problem with my connection..could it have something to do with the splitter.

Ok I am at home now and the connections are as specified above. But i am still unable to connect to the internet as long as my phone is on the cradle. I can connect only once i dial some no. on the phone. Till then zilch.
I can see the following error in the system error logs
"The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 192.168.1.2, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, please change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope."
don't really know if this is related to the problem....

I found some more errors in the eventlog (system) once again i dunno if these are related to my problem
"The IP address lease 192.168.1.2 for the Network Card with network address 000874E8E034 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)."
"PRIP could not request multicasting on the local interface with IP address 192.168.1.2. The data is the error code."
"IPRIP could not join the multicast group 224.0.0.9 on the local interface with IP address 192.168.1.2. The data is the error code."
