Sonu : Finally it worked...hopefully it will work

I checked all the points u said and also turned the firewall to OFF
( earlier all this was not needed ) and enabled the OUTGOING protocol encryption to "enabled" in utorrent....and then tried the official torrent offered by utorrent to test the speed ...it worked...since then its been working atleast as of now !!!

Now I just have to try again with Firewall on ...lets c ...

    I had heard abt Tikona....any good ?

    Thnks anyways

I will not recommend turing the firewall off completely.

Go to your firewall settings & allow utorrent in it. Don't disable it completely.

Protocol Encryption shouldn't be an issue...but use it if you want...I suppose your Upload speed will be lowered a bit if you enable it but no big deal.

Tikona was bad for me earlier but check the thread in Tikona section "Good ISP" It's gotten much better for the last week. I hope it stays like that.

They are very polite/customer friendly not babu type service. But it's 600 kbps for 800 bucks....I wish they had like 1 Mbps UL for 1100...they want like 1400 + tax for that...kinda too much.

And they don't have option to up the Upload speed but when they offer 2 Mbps speed for the first 400 MB you download acc. to your plan...upload speed is like 512 - 768 kbps, they don't mention that anywhere.

Anyway I hope it stays like this if it doesn't I will disconnect it. I will stick with it for a another month.

I have had an MTNL triband connection for over 6 years now.. They are clearly throttling the bandwidth. This was admitted by an employee of MTNL cherai exchange, thane. He was equally fed up with my complaints every two days.

I figured this also by testing online.

RC4 level encryption on my client Azureus Vuze (ubuntu) and an anti-throttling plugin worked only for a day. The next day onwards it is now completely blocked as in no transfers at all.

In the last month MTNL has started throttling video too. This has been confirmed by three other friends who use MTNL. They thought it was a network issue. Only when i told them did they experiment and notice the pattern time and again.

There has to be some no-cost means of beating these MTNL traffic shapers.

By the way TRAI mentions fair usage as 100 GB per month. My data download is always less than that. Would it help to go to consumer court with this?

There is nothing called good or bad modem. First check the download and upload speed which you are getting using speedtest.net. Are you getting the correct speed according to the broadband plan that you have opted for?

Whenever you are downloading from any torrent the speed is dependent on the number of seeders. So the more the number of speeders higher will be your speed. If you have more leechers then the download speed will be less.
    Hope this helps.

Mtnl is just not properly supporting downloads from torrents. I had been away for a day and left my pc on, downloading a big torrent. But when i came back and checked, it had only downloaded half of what I had expected. I am experiencing serious problems with torrents and I usually download only with it. Really, I wouldn't have switched to mtnl if I had known this would be happen. When I start downloading from torrents, the speeds are stable for 2-3 hours and after that, the speeds just keep dropping and rising and it doesnt change even if you restart your modem and torrent client. This happens with both well seeded torrents and those with only a few. And I am also getting very low speeds while watching videos online. First I thought mtnl had just put restrictions to youtube but videos from any other site are not loading as they should either. This speed limiting and traffic shapers are just disgusting. If you say unlimited plan, you have to give unlimited. Increase the rentals if you want but the connection shouldn't be compromised in any way.

Speed has never been a problem with MTNL, the only problem I am facing is frequest disconnection.
