    Angry [Help] MTNL connection problems

Okay I have an MTNL 256 kbps Unlimited plan, with a DSL 502T modem (supplied by MTNL).

For the past couple of weeks, the connection has been acting up. Besides being slower than normal, it keeps disconnecting (and giving me 'this connection has limited or low connectivity' errors). This happens most often when I'm downloading torrents. Often when I try to Repair the connection, it is unable to Renew the IP address.

Most of the time, I am also unable to access the router's control interface thing (192.168.1.1) for enabling Port Forwarding. This has never happened before. Sometimes, if I'm quick enough I manage to get into the ui and enable port forwarding before the interface becomes inaccessible but most of the time it doesn't work and I need to turn off/on my modem again.

Also, I'm unable to visit many websites like YouTube, Digg and Lifehacker. There isn't any problem with these websites because I managed to visit them through a proxy (hidemyass.com ).

If anyone has any ideas, please help!
    TIA!

Yeah, but the thing is, why should these sites be blocked anyway? And that's not my main problem right now ... my main problem is why the net is so unpredictably intermittent

    @stryder

    Check your settings.
Use MTNL values VPI VCI 0 and 32

Select MTU 1492. Mod mode GDMT/T413/Glite/ADSL2.

Hey, thanks for replying. The thing is, I'm unable to access the router settings (the 192.168.1.1) page usually refuses to open (never used to happen before). Is there any other way to access it?

Also, where do I find the MTU settings in the router setup pages?
And is it possible that these settings could have spontaneously changed on their on? Because I've definitely never edited any of these ones

    Thanks!

    @essbebe: Okay, here's what I get with ipconfig /all:

    Windows IP Configuration
    Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : bajaj
    Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
    IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
    WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

    Ethernet adapter MTNL:
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection
    Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-19-D1-90-38-86
    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 59.179.243.70
    203.94.243.70
    Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, April 12, 2009 10:42:00 PM
    Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, April 12, 2009 11:42:00 PM

Also, in TCP/IP properties my setting was to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and the DNS servers were 59.179.243.70 (preferred) and 203.94.243.70 (alternate) - these values were provided by mtnl guy the last time I actually managed to get through to them. Anyway, I changed the values to what you gave ... internet connectivity was still there, but I was still unable to access the router control ... :/

    Default access the modem pages

You may have to reset the unit to factory defaults.
    try this
What is my IP address? IP Address Tracer, Internet Speed Test, DNS Tools
    When connected type above.
    (clear cache)
Type the IP in address bar.

Do you get a modem opening page ?

    type admin admin and see.
    Feedback.

Default DSL 502T modem connection Problem

I'm also facing the similar Problem for the past couple of weeks, the connection has been acting up. It keeps disconnecting (and giving me 'this connection has limited or low connectivity' errors). This happens most of the Time. I am also unable to access the router's control interface 192.168.1.1 it does not provide any authentication dialog box. but most of the time it doesn't work and I need to turn off/on my modem again.

I went to MTNL sachar hut they told me that there is some problem in the D-Link modems and they were having more the 80% of complaints about D-link modems. They reset the modem settings to factor settings. But it did not help I was able to connect to internet but it keeps on disconnecting.

There is one more thing when I'm not able to connect to any web site like (yahoo.com or gmail.com) at the same time i can connect to Gtalk and chat with my friends or use skype for the matter..

I think it is not able to resolve host name??

Does anyone know what exactly is the problem??

@madox: Yeah, my problem is almost exactly the same as yours. Yahoo is not working right now, but Gmail, Facebook etc are. When you spoke to the MTNL people, did they say what they are going to do about it? Also, are you from Delhi?

Why it started i dont know something with Dlink not sure what it is,
for my router i called them up they have special number up on there website for MTNL users now ...first the he/she will try some changes with your router click this that unclick that if still it does not work...th'll ask for your location and accordingly give you a nearest contact number from where you can update your firmware.

    hope it helps.

    cheers
