Hello members,

My MTNL Triband connection was recently activated for which I purchased a DLINK 802C modem. Today, I also learnt that there are PCI ADSL modems available in India, (although not so common i guess)

Let's have a quick look if it's worth considering this option :

Advantages :

1) Fewer connections - Now there is only one tel. connector cable.
So no USB, NO Ethernet, No power cord connections.
2) PC can be programmed to start say at 00:00 hrs. (many PC's have this feature in BIOS) & shutdown automatically at 08:00 hrs. using software on net. Although reboot scripts are available for all ADSL modems, this PCI card is integrated with the system hence yr MTNL sessins will start / end along with system reboot / shutdown.

Disadvantages :

1) Probably these are of Chinese make so firmwares, driver updates will be diff to find.
2) I am not pretty sure if they support Vista
3) MTNL guys may frown at the internal modem during troubleshooting / service complaints.

So this leaves us with a mixed bag of +ves & -ves.

I have specifically added this post, as people going in for new connections can consider this option.

for sample i have pasted one link below, the manufacturer claims that the modem is tested for MTNL, BSNL etc.
