hi everyone

i am encountering a problem of the nature that when i connect to the net
my ADSL light goes on blinking and the ETHERNET light remains steady
( i have MTNL .....ADSL ROUTER with the triband combo plan ) to the
result my internet usage goes much more than what i have actually
surfed / downloaded....what could be the problem ? and its remedy
by the way i have run the antivirus and yahoo...anti-spy on my pc which
confirm that there is no virus or any malware on my pc....kindly help and
oblige

Try using a 3rd party firewall software like Zone Alarm, Comodo etc, to block unneeded programs from accessing Internet. And add trusted application to the trusted (only trusted feature of programs) list to avoid pop ups alerts. If there is any always running programs (example:antivirus) which uses automatic updates, then set it to manual.

Note: Unneeded features of the some useful programs connects to Internet without the users knowledge, even after disabling it in the settings page(example: P2P mirror feature of Orbit Downloader). Using a 3rd party firewall software will alert and allow the user to block these programs from connecting to Internet.

mention your modem model AND MAKE.
Disable all applications, appearing in the
TaskBar including Windows Automatic Update.
Keep AV and anti spy/firewall programs resident.

Monitor internet activity with an external program like
shaplus meter.

are you sure the ADSL light blinks? that usually is supposed to be stable always , even when you download/upload..

ADSL light blinks it means something is being downloading to your system. As mentioned above, close automatic update option and close all the un necessary programs from your taskbar.

Also try to check it out with other pc if the same problem occurs there, it means there is some problem at mtnl. If you are using wireless router make sure it is password protected.

Firstly, ensure you have no internet sharing/ unsecured Wi-Fi setup
Secondly check if there are any resident apps / viruses which cause this internet activity
Thirdly visit your local MTNL and kick theis @!#

ADSL light blinks while trying to connect / login to the internet gateway. This could be due to many reasons, including contact / cable at the exchange, or overloaded servers. Lodge a complaint on 1504 and normally it should be set right within a few hours.
