Default Mtnl Mumbai is a cheater, 420

Mtnl mumbai cheats, their customers in a big way.
we mumbaikars are ending up paying 40% premium for the privilege of using Triband.
    Reason: hxxp://mtnldelhi.in/broadband/triband_tariff.htm
this the mtnl Delhi tariff page. please take a note of the Unlimited and Unlimited Combo packages. 256K Ul is available for just Rs. 599/- along with a free static IP.
whereas in mumbai we are forced to pay Rs.999/- for 256K Ul. and another Rs.1000/- per annum for an static IP.
You will find such discrepancies through out the whole page.
Can we do something against this Malpractice and discrimination ???
after all mtnl mumbai/Delhi is the same parent company and also owned by Government of India.

I sympathize with you and your frustrations are quite justified. I also felt that MTNL Mumbai has absurd rates.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. We do not have strong laws that protect cosnumers from being overcharged.

The best option (if available and possible) is to switch to some other ISP.

BSNL is also owned by government.
But BSNL don't do such thing ........ rates of BSNL all over INDIA is same........
So best option is switch from MTNL to another ISP.

and again spend another rs.1000 or so on installation charges, no thanks , i just switched over from sify after 5 years of good service from them. the local cto required us to go to his office to pay the rent, and that was proving to be difficult as it is about 5 km from my house. and he would not activate the connection until i make the payment. so every month 2-3 days of disconnections. over all mtnl is good so far except speed issues (22-25 kbs only.) and lot of money?????????
hopefully they will bring the price cuts sooner.

hey guys it seems the mtnl guys heard me and have set new schems out.
doubling of the bandwidth for UL plans...... at old rates. this means that now i will get 512K from sometime this month for Rs.1100. its not the best but it will have to do,
if only they would replace their BABU staffs, to some competant engineers and other helpfull Customers service agents , it would be pure bliss.

earliest proof reports of speed increase should be here by tuesday. all babus are celebrating their victory over india today. and tommorrow they will be down in hangover

say any of you guys have found the actual download speeds in 5-10 mbps? in any of the indian ISPs....?
i had that privilege of downloading dvds after dvds once in the good ol USA. ofcourse it was a stolen connection from a small time company who had forgotten to secure their wireless. we had fun time using that connection almost a week, before they caught on. at that speeds we ran out of things to download.
