Default [Help] Trendchip HG520 - Security settings

I recently got my old D-link modem replaced with the Trendchip HG520 one from MTNL. It's working fine, but I wanted to change the security settings. As far as I can make out, it's using WEP which is not so secure. How should I change it to a more secure setting?

    Thanks in advance!

login to ur router homepage, now go to interface setup-wireless

go to authentication type and change it to wpa-psk/wpa-2-psk

now go to encryption and select tkip/aes

after that enter a pre shared key....this key will be required when u connect

now go to wireless mac filter and set it to activated and action -allow assosciation

this will let only those systems whose mac add u specify to access the wifi

now get the mac address for ur wifi adapter and enter it

also for extra security keep the access point-deactivated
when working change it to active.

that should be more than enough

    Thanks a lot!
Also, how do I get my laptop/other computer to automatically connect to my wireless network when it is switched on?

read kix primer on it. & take precaution like changing key or your wireless is as unsafe as not using any security. If you don't beleive me then go to any forum like remoteexploit & they will tell u all about it( how insecure wpa is without precautions).

PS: My advice don't go there if you don't have much prior knowledge about these things.

Make a backup of your current Modem/Router settings to
    C:/My Documents/Thomson IBF settings ( say)

    2.
If you are using a "Dialer' now by entering UserId and PW
    in computer window, CHANGE to
"Always ON" connection and enter your ID
    without @ bsnl.in) and password.
    NEXT etc
Save settings. Wait for two minutes.

@Luke Skywalker: Thanks a lot, those guides are very useful!

@essbebe: I was using the windows wireless thing to log in. But when I changed the security to WPA, it created problems e.g. it would keep disconnecting from the network/not manage to acquire ip address etc. So now I'm using the software provided with the usb adapter, and it's working fine - I'm able to autologin and everything.
