Thread: Connecting 2 laptops Via MTNL M204SM

Hey guys,
I have an MTNL M204SM router. I tried to connect my two laptops through this modem. Heres' what I did:

1. Connect laptop 1 via the cable provided to a port behind the modem.
2. Connect laptop 2 via the cable provided to another port behind the modem.
3. Open Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection Properties > TCP/IP properties and select 'Obtain IP address automatically' on both Laptops.

After doing this, I opened My Network Places and clicked on View Workgroup Computers this showed both of my connected laptops but I am not able to share files (Via the Shared Documents folder) to the other Laptop, it says, "you do not have access persmission", inspite of disabling Windows Firewall on both computers.

I also removed the phone wire that goes behind it because I wanted to connect them solely for file sharing purposes.

Please help me out with this problem. Kindly excuse any misused jargon.

I have similar type of question. I am sharing my mtnl connection to 2 desktop computers through Linksys Gateway (modem + router). I just want to know if sharing of files is possible between computers using this router. If yes then how ?
