Thread: MTNL Slow Speed

HI,

Since few days I am facing very slow speed on MTNL Triband connection. I have 256UL plan. Earlier I used to get a speed of 200k and it has drastically reduced to 50k. Reading the blogs on internet I found that SNR value plays a major role in this, I checked on to my router it shows 32. Is this value fine or it should be lesser? Also does SNR have any impact on speed?

what does Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test say?

On speednet it says download is 0.18Mbps and upload is 0.06Mbps. I think this issue started when they upgraded my plan to 512k recently within the same cost. Just curious to know if anyone else is also facing such issue after MTNL upgraded their plan to 512kUL from 256kUL.

HI AS U STATED I HAVE AN 100 % IDENTICAL PROBLEM.
UNDER THE 256 UL PLAN MY DOWNLOAD SPEEDS WERE NEVER BELOW 200 KBPS...
SINCE THEY UPGRADED ME TO 512 KBPS I HAVE NEVER GOT A DOWNLOAD SPEED ABOVE 50 KBPS...
EVEN THE CALL CENTERS ARE NOT CO OPERATIVE.THEY KEEP SHIRKING DUTIES SAYING CALL 1504.WHEN U CALL 1504 THEY SAY CALL 198.INTURN THESE LADIES SAY CALL 1500.WHEN U CONFRONT THEM THEY ABSURDLY HANG UP ON THE LINE.
VERY POOR AFTER SALES SERVICE.
I REGRET THIS CONNECTION.
IM SURE MNTL HAS CAPPED THE DOWNLOAD LIMIT.
COS ALL THE DOWNLOAD AND UPLOAD TESTS ONLINE CONFIRM A DOWNLOAD SPEED OF .5 MBPS.

hey godfrey, n vac.. I have also been suffering from the same problem. The day my plan got updated, i started getting 50 kbps. some blogs have clarified saying mtnl users must be getting the speed in kBps which means Kile Bytes Per Second not in kbps which means Kilo Bits Per Second. And 50 KBps is equivalent to 400+ kbps.

how is it possible. I mean if it is, then any damn file must be downloaded in similar time. And another thing is that bit and byte doesn't have bigger difference.

hence I have planned that I am going to shift to my previous plan i.e. 256 kbps which MTNL have announced on 24th of September. It is for Rs. 749. If we are not getting proper speed then why pay 999.

I have been getting slow YouTube buffering speeds recently. I have no clue why. Anyone has a solution?
My speedtest results are fine. 1.85 Mb/s download and 0.22 Mb/s upload.
The bandwidth is fine as you can see.
