    You should get a speed of 32-28 kilobytes (kbps) per second with that plan or in other words 256 kilobits per second. ( kBps). Check out again what are you & your friend is getting by doing test at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

    What you get is quite normal. I think you are confused by Kbps and KBps.

    1 KBps = 8 Kbps, 256 Kbps = 256/8 = 32 KBps

    I too use UL 750 and get 25 - 30 KBps

    You can try TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net. Also post the speed test result.

    first of all congrats to ur friend as he gets 200KBps speed in an unlimited 256kbps plan.

    As already suggested by members try tcp optimizer from speedguide.net.

    Yes there's a lot difference between Kbps and KBps.

    B=byte
    b=bit
    1 Byte=8 bits or 8 bits=1byte

    So 256Kbps=32KBps

    Hope ur friend gets Kbps and not KBps.

    Either your friend is pulling a fast one on you , or he doesn't know ABC of Internet speed. Tell him to do the speed test only at the MTNL speed test link ..here

    http://202.159.230.232:8888/speed/index.jsp

    and paste the result here for all of us to see
    If on a 256kbps plan he is getting a d/l speed of 200KB-250KB, then his net speed should be 2Mbps + That lucky fella

    My friend I know the difference between KBps and Kbps.
    I am talking about downloading speed not the bandwidth.
    My friend is getting downloading speed of 200-250KBps while downloading from utorrent and also from IDM.

    So maybe bsnl person had mistakely changed his port to higher speed, or his plan has changed accidently. Is he getting this speed from this month or earlier also?

    Guys you wont believe it, i got mtnl triband connection on 16/01/2010 and since that day till feb 17 i got download speeds of 2.4 MB/S even on utorrent i got 1.5 MB/S, speedtest.net it gave me speed of 19 mb/s and on 192.168.1.1 it showed
    downstream rate kb/s = 22532
    upstream rate kb/s = 1000

    but on 18 feb, 2010 it has now reduced to

    downstream rate kb/s = 614
    upstream rate kb/s = 252

    Due to mtnl introducing 512 kb/s on 599 plan upgrading from 256 kb/s

    Is there any way i can get those high speeds back
    During that one month i frequently visited several blogs and saw that few people got those speeds while others refrained from accepting it

    pl help you guys look great in this computer stuff

    pl reply i m desperate to get back those speeds
