Exclamation Wierd problem with my connection!!

    Hi Guys,

I've been having a really wierd and seriously annoying problem for 1 month now!!!
    I have a D-Link ADSL 2+ router - Model : GLB-502T
Just a quick description just so I am clear with everyone... It has 4 indication lights : 1 Power,1 ADSL, 1 PPPoE, 1 LAN. Out of these the LAN and ADSL are supposed to blink at a high rate if the connection/internet is in use. If my Internet is not in use or if I am not downloading anything. The lights will not blink i.e. they will be stable (constantly on).

The problem is that since the past month, I've been having a problem with the LAN light going berserk. Basically, at any random time in the day, apparently all of a sudden and for no reason at all, the LAN and hence the ADSL indication will start blinking very fast as if I am downloading something, even though there are no downloads on, and I am not even using the computer. It sometimes even happens when I have just turned on the computer. As soon as windows loads, this S*&T starts!!!

I initially thought that it might have been some kind of process running in the background like an update or something that I did not know of, but I checked and that is not the case (atleast I don't see anything that I know of). I also thought that it could be a virus, which it might be, but Mcafee has not detected anything, and Spyware Terminator and Spybot - Search & Destroy did not indicate any threats either. I also did a registry cleaning and defrag but that did not solve this issue either.

Before I say anything further, I'd just REALLY appreciate it if someone gave me some kind of solution for this that works.

If I can provide any further info that might help, pls let me know....

    Thanks in advance.... !

This seems to be a router problem.
Do what DiscoverMT has advised and if possible try another router on the same connection and computer.

I checked the U/l n d/l speeds and its fine (like it should be). My speed is 1Mbps n thats what it displayed.

But the whole point is I could check this because my net was fine at the time. At the times that this problem starts and my router is as if its dloading smthing, I cannot access the net at all. That is to say NO pages wil open, NO websites can be accessed and I would not have been able to check this online at the time.
I did notice one thing though.....

When this problem is happening, I checked the sent and received data volume in the status option of my LAN connection and it shows that the sent data was around 400K bytes while received was hardly 500 bytes.
    So what does this mean???

    Default Firmware upgrade may help

I forgot to mention in my last reply but you should try and upgrade the firmware of your router.
Theirs a problem with your routers software because the router seems to be sending and receiving data by itself.
    OR
If this is a MTNL rented router call their service centre and clearly tell them you have a router issue and to send an engineer at your place for examining your router.
DO NOT TRY TO EXPLAIN THEM THE PROBLEM.
Register a complain on 198 and since their customer care in not so good, calling once may not help. They will replace your router if required.

If this router is self owned and even the firmware upgrade does not help, take it to their service centre.

Since you are sure their are no downloads or updates running on your computer then it has to be a router issue.
This may be a line fault also so mention the values which are asked in the above post.
