Default Port forwarding on dynamic ip

    Hi guys
    I am new here.
I am on mtnl 512kbps unlimited plan and have the modem sterlite-sam300ax. I get 60-70kbps while downloading with idm but with torrents I get 30-40kbps only even with well seeded ones. I have tested and the problem is that ports are not open.

I have read guides on internet to port forward but I don't know how to do it on dynamic ip as in mtnl's case. I would like to know how to set up a static ip for my connection and if possible step by step please.

I have already read the steps given on this forum to port forward on this router but that's for static ip. If anything else is needed besides this, just ask for it so that my problem can be solved.

    Thanks

    btw: I live in Delhi.

    check ipconfig /all
Your computer Ip address if 192.168.1.X
is "Static IP" for you. Example.

    ( Value X any from 3 to 254 )
    192.168.1.1 usually for modem access.
192.168.1.2 usually for USB port modem access.

If you are on "DIALER" mode No Port forwarding possible. ./ Nat Virtual server/port triggering options will not appear.
However you can enter in DMZ zone 192.168.1.X.

    Thanks for reply.

It was 192.168.1.2 earlier but I changed it to 192.168.1.183 thinking that it would make my ip static and did the port forwarding.

But none of the ports opened and my ip keeps on changing after each router restart, so I can't port forward for each ip.

So, can someone tell me the steps to have static ip on this modem i.e my ip on the website for checking ports doesn't change every time I restart the router.

I can't post the links here for images but it would really help if someone can give me the way so that I can show the images.

    Thanks

Shut Down DHCP Server in your router and to forward ports find the "Virtual Server " option in your router.
Here you can select which port you wish to open and on which ip address.
Now enter the same ip address in "Internet Protocol Version 4" Session and after this you are through with portforwarding.

I am on PPPoE "Always on" mode. I have attached the rar files containing jpgs.

In the pics you will see that 1st pic shows ip address 192.168.1.183 but actually it is 59.177.39.166 as in 2nd pic. I want that both same i.e I want to have static ip and then do port forwarding. Please give me step by step instructions on how to do it on my modem and if possible by pics.

@essbebe The document gives instruction on how to setup the router but there are no port forwarding instructions there.

    Thanks

    Tushar,

The computer connected to the modem/router has two IP addresses:

    a) External IP address: This is assigned by your ISP. It could be dynamic (most of the cases) or static (available with select plans only).
    b) Internal IP address: This is assigned by the router.

In the bridge mode, there is no DHCP. The internal and external IP addresses are same. And no port forwarding is required in bridge mode as all ports are open.

You have to forward the port using the internal IP address. Please read the following guide: Torrents and Port Fowarding Guide.

I have explained the concepts. If you have questions, you can ask.

    @just4kix

    The guide is really great.

So I should port forward for the ip address shown in my connection status i.e. 192.168.1.2 and not for the dynamic ip, right?? No need to setup a static ip??

Also, I want to know how to configure the router in bridge mode.

    Thanks

    Thanks, tushar.

Yes. You should forward the IP address 192.168.1.2.

Read my other guides also. Link available in my signature.

Yeah, I have already read this guide.

According to it I have to setup a static ip first. So in TCP/IP properties I enter my own information and set the IP address as 192.168.1.10 which was 192.168.1.2 when set as automatic.

Now I port forward according to the guide but the test still shows that ports are not open.

You can try Bitlord, because in it you can set to use NO Port and get good speed if you are having much problem in other torrent clients for Port forwarding.

Have you tried the main ports:
    1
    6969
6881-6999 (any one mainly 6881 except between 6891-6899)
    65535

I did the port forwarding 5 days back and it is working perfectly .

utorrent is the best torrent client

Just make sure that u have uncheckd "enable UPnP port mapping and unchk "randomize port each start "

and then follow the instruction in the guide ..hope it ll work

    enable UPnP port mapping
There is no loss in enabling it. The speed is not affected by this.

    Thanks to all for replying.
I have successfully done port forwarding, it was my comodo firewall that was causing the problem.

I get a maximum of 50-52 on torrents, even the well seeded ones, and that too for a moment and the download speed fluctuates a lot 25-50 kBps. Can someone tell me if it is the case with mtnl? How much do you get on 512 combo plan.

Hi, this entire forum is a lot useful. Anways MtNL always fluctuates I recon 3 years back I used to have 599 (512Kb/s) limited my speed used to go from 86 to 185+KB/s. As of now after Hathway' poor speed I switch to MtNL again using 999 UL and as obvious speed still fluctuates from 110 to 320 KB/s.

As of port forward I do it evertime I restart my computer (which I don't often do )using still Dynamic IP.

Port Forwarding Utorrent on the Sterlite SAM300-AX

Your static IP is the one in your Local Area Connection Properties-->TCP IP properties

This will definitely work as it did for mine
