Thread: help to setup wifi router with dlink glb 502t

hello people i am new to this forum.
just bought a linksys wrt54gh wifi router yesterday. i cannot set it up.

problem details.
the setup wizard gives an error in the verifying router settings part. a wifi network is created with which i can access net on my ipod touch and nokia 5800 but not on my laptops.

without using the cd i do not have any idea.
read a few related posts socrates experience among others but still i cannot use wireless internet. a network is created but internet access is not possible.
i do not know wether dlink 502t has to be in pppoe or bridge
i dont know the difference between them and i dont know my modem is on which mode.
i will appreciate some help regarding this

Your Dlink GLB-502T is working fine and you are able to connect to the internet through it.Right?
All you need to do now is to set up your new Linksys Router.

yes dlink works fine i can access internet with wire. all i want is configuration for the router to access wifi internet.
while reading some posts they mention bridge and pppoe i dont know my dlink is on what mode

Just Log on to http://192.168.1.1 and then go on the WAN Settings.
Here you will know in what mode your router(GLB-502T) is in.
By default MTNL guys set it in PPPoE and it cant be in bridge mode unless it is changed by you.

(a)When you enter your USERID/Password Externally in a window in computer to connect,
this is known as "Dialer" mode
(b)PPPoE "Always On" connection UserID/PW stored in modem.
To use more than one system ( b) preferred.

Para two :
Copy/Paste the following data here.
Start RUN type cmd
OK
New window opens
type ipconfig /all
with both Dlink502T and WRT54GH connected.

Confirm the wifi network name which appears in Laptop also available in IPod and Nokia 5800.
( which has been entered in WRT54GH)

well i had a technician over my place who tried to configure the
router. wifi network is made successfully but wifi can be accessed
only on ipod touch and nokia 5800 but there is NO internet on
both my laptops. when i go to run and do ping i get host
unreachable error. any idea??

Hey You may have not properly configured the settings and changes which you are suppose to make in your laptops to connect to the internet via wifi.

No feedback from you . ipconfig /all data.
This is to check how you have made a
WIFI network in your laptop.
The technician has done a part job !
What did he suggest for getting Internet WIFI in laptops?
Start /All programs/ Accessories
Communications
Wireless Network Wizard.
open and follow instructions.
If done properly
Start Network WLAN
link will appear.
Click and select
"show wireless Networks available "
The same WIFI network name which appears in your cellphone should appear. )(Presume you have a secured wifi connection asking for security key)
feedback.
