Default Advice/Recommendation for switching to MTNL

    Guyz..
Iam from mumbai and using reliance 64kbps unlimited since years now and iam danm happy with it. But now i feel desire for more speed and planning to switching to MTNL's DSL NU* plan.
Thus I'd like to know is MTNL reliable for download's. Most important question is, do they block BitTorrent protocol or something like that??!! Cause I've heard there are bunch of ISP's who block certain protocol's! Actually I keep downloading stuff torrent sites and my pc never sleeps...
    MTNL users plz advice...

    Hi Kittu...

MTNL does not block any any of the Torrent software ports... Atleast I use Azureus and it works like anything!!! And in the NU plan... it downloads almost 600 MB in one night... Even I used to keep my PC on throughout the day.. but now I need to keep it on only in the night and my purpose is solved.

Just remember to restart ur modem at 12 midnight and 8 AM... otherwise ur bandwidth will be wasted. There are automatic scripts available to do this!!!

    Cheers!
    Venkat

Well, maybe u r wrong to give the advice to switch to MTNL/BSNL because i have heard a lot of times that current users will be upgraded to 2Mbps not new!
Also, many unlimited plan users said that there is a rise in speed, that is because they have upgraded the line of UL users also by mistake, so bad news that speed was just for a few time or u can call it a short dream. Can anyone give me the details of MTNl broadband for Haryana?

Something wrong with you? You'd still be stuck in 'stone age' with Vista.
My gateway machine runs Linux and has a scheduled script that runs exactly at the required times to reboot the ADSL router. You could do the same
pretty easily using Linux. In my opinion, Windows XP is far superior to Windows Vista, which largely is a bunch of popups and imitation eye candy sold in the market at a price that would burn a hole in your pocket.

Go for a Mac or Linux with Compiz Fusion if you like eye candy so much.
Besides, I'm of the firm opinion that people should not use software they
did not purchase. People making software put in a lot of effort, time and
money into it (billions of dollars). If you're downloading Vista without
purchasing it when you say 'dll', you'd be labeled a criminal. You're stealing
what doesn't belong to you. I urge you to not do that.

If someone stole your belongings from your house, you'd promptly go
ahead and lodge a police complaint, but what should the software
companies do when you steal theirs? Avoid piracy unless you wish
to be dragged into court someday and ripped apart by these companies.

As an aside, Vista is full of DRM crap and loaded with restrictions
for which you shell out hundreds of dollars. It's just not worth the
    money---your hard earned money.

I bought a notebook that came with Vista preloaded. They said I'd lose
'software warranty' if I installed another operating system alongside it.
To hell with their 'software warranty', which is just a stupid excuse to hide
the fact that their customer support engineers can't deal with anything other
than Windows. All they know is how to 'reboot' and 'reinstall'. I dumped
Vista out of my box, installed Linux, and it's about the only OS I use on it
unless you count virtualization, which I use to run a host of operating
systems like Windows (yes, you can run Windows inside Linux), Solaris,
    Linux, and FreeBSD.

    Regards,
    Yesudeep.

Happy to see a forum member using Linux and giving opinions against pirated products.

I guess 80% of the Home Users in India, especially those who have assembled computers are using pirated version of one or more softwares. This is only MY guess.

I've always been a happy Linux user, using it more than 90% of the time. And my vote is for XP in case of Windows.

    Thanks and regards,
    Pothi Kalimuthu.
