Question Speed Reduced from 2 MBPS to 512 KBPS

Hi Guys, I am new here & found this forum very helpful.
Okay so i have a problem, I am using Triband of MTNL and plan of triband is TriB_749_NU. I was getting 2 MBPS speed from 2 years but now suddenly speed slashed to 512 KBPS.

I had made two changes before checking the speed.

1st. My Old Modem huawei was not working than MTNL replaced it to D-Link DSL
    502-T.
2nd. Before 3 Days i gave a request to MTNL to change my current plan from TriB_749_NU to 1 MBPS Unlimited Plan ( Rs. 999 Combo ), As i can see in my online Triband details that my currently my plan has not been changed because they said it will change from 1 May 2010. It's still TriB_749_NU.

    Please help my guys.

    Thanks

    Hey Guys...

I've been having a weird issue with my TriBand connection in Mumbai for the past 4 days.

I have UL 2 Mbps Plan. With additional charge of rs.500 for 512 kbps upload speed.

In my modem's settings it shows connected speed as 2044 kbps down / 509 kbps up

But at SpeedTest.net & Other Speed testing sites I'm getting speeds of

0.80 Mbps - 400 kbps (depending on the time of day at night's it's high at afternoon's its down too 256 kbps!)

On MTNL's own speed testing site I do the speed check I get 1.5 Mbps at night & then it crawls too 800 kbps in afternoon.

I was facing this same issue 2 months ago BUT it got sorted out within 3 days.

Now I'm facing this same issue yet again!

I'm calling MTNL they are telling me to check my speed on their site which I did & I told them I'm getting fluctuating speeds...

Their response is "They can gurantee a minimum speed of 256 kbps as per TRAI guideline" which I'm getting of course, after this they say they cannot do anything.

I mean come on! I'm paying these b@st@rds....Rs.4,000 per month for a connection...

They are giving me this fluctuating speed? for that much ammounts of money?

Do you have any ideas? Where should I complain?

Should I Just pay these b@st@rds...and wait for the connection to be fixed automatically?

I think there is something wrong with their Gateway Server...Previously it used to connect to a Gateway IP of 58.x.x.x or 118.x.x.x

    Now it's connecting to, 120.163.0.1

This is an idiot gateway giving such fluctuating speeds.

Anyway I can change this Gateway or any other suggestions guys? Who should I call?

I'm using OpenDNS as DNS servers, my line is clean. I just for a fact know it's a problem from their end.

Don't really know why they are throttling me? Do they don't have the resources now to drive so many customers, that they will throttle power users now?

    This is idiotic!

Yes there may be an issue with the default gateway which is the ISPs server IP address.
In which area do you live in?
I live at Prabhadevi and my values are as follows

    IP Address 59.183.20.220
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
    Default Gateway 59.183.63.254
    DNS Server 59.185.0.23

    SNR Margin 30 16 dB
    Line Attenuation 26 15 dB
    Data Rate 2240 256 kbps

Actually I am getting 2mbps on UL 999 1mbps plan and my data rates are as above.

Default 2Mbps line giving only 0.5Mbps

Hi - I am having exactly the same problem. My speed as per speedtest.net is 0.5Mbps and at one time I used to easily get 1.5-1.8Mbps on my MTNL Triband. I'm on a 749plan on a 2Mbps line. One fine day out of the blue the speed just collapsed to 0.5Mbps.

Needless to say, all calls to MTNL Customer Service have failed. All they say is that they have noted down my complaint.

I don't know how to give my modem spex, if someone can help me with that, I can post it here. Thanks very much.

Just send an online complain. It really works.
You will get a call from them and then clearly tell them that this is a speed issue and internet is fine.

The same problem happened to me and it got resolved within 24 hours.

    You are welcome.

And the other two members are your speed issues resolved?

    @Sonu
I tracked the IP address you have mentioned and I am sure you have made a mistake in mentioning the IP address of the default gateway.
It does not even belong to India.

    You shmucks crazy or what??
"120.63.0.1" doesn't belong to India? Lol bahaha

I guess my MTNL phone line has alien connection with it LOL!!

    Talking about things....

My speed problem was fixed but It wasn't due to complaining...I CHANGED MY PLAN back to NU one.

Now it's fixed. Go Figure? Weird.

And One more thing I must bring to your notice...

It doesn't matter if you live in Prabhadevi or anywhere.

MTNL is behench0d internet, ok? That's final.

    Reason is this....

Doesn't matter if your on NU or UL full plan.

The Speed of 1 Mbps UL or 2 Mbps UL plan DIPS down too 256 kbps after 10 am or so....upto 10 - 11 pm in the night.

That's Final. I have MTNL connection in 4-5 places now in Mumbai. Andheri, Goregaon, Khar, S.V. Road....

    I have same problem everywhere!!!

So conclusion is it is a big behench0d internet.

I am testing other providers now....

I will not be able to get Tata, BSNL or Airtel that is for sure...Don't even know where to book internet for those idiots.

Besides I'm not shelling out more than Rs.1,000 for any type of internet.

So 2 things I will test is my local cable wallah internet & Tikona internet.

I may get Tikoana asap as tomorrow evening.

I will test that sh!t out.

MTNL is ok I say 50-50 but if your looking for dedicated bandwidth minus FLUCTUATION it's not for you coz it's run by behench0ds who go by the policy Mujhe Tension Nahin Lena.

@Shadow - You retarded or something? I also know how to trace, okay? Jeez

and I made a typo in the previous post...

    It was 120.63.0.1

as mentioned in my 2nd last post here...

But OBVIOUSLY...you aren't that smart enough to figure the numbers out....

I mean you can trace & all but you can't inter-change to mis-match can you? lol

    Blah forget that.

@essbebe - Into the frying pan? Well Thanks for the concern....

I'll take the dip in the frying pan though!

Like they say you go down & down but after that there's only one way to go, UP!

This MTNL is one big behench0d internet...I assure you.

It's good for email, surfing, downloading etc.

    But for video calling/ conferencing it's a big behench0d...

You probably will tell me 100 things HEY MY WORKS!! HEY I HAVE NO PROBLEMS IN SKYPE!

Well I JUST DON'T CARE about how it works for you!

The fact of the matter is it's garbage when it comes to dedicated bandwidth.

You agree with me? Good. You disagree with me Well I show you the "finger". Simple as that.

Tried this numerous places....same problem everywhere.....when it comes to dedicated bandwidth it's an EPIC FAILURE.

And as I mentioned above if this Tikona also does not WORK then I'll abuse the hell out of those behench0ds as well.

And if all Hope fails I"ll patch & make up with my cablewallah....I'll use his internet & give it a go i.e 5Net....

and if that's a failure also I'll abuse the hell out of that behench0d as well.

All in all - I just don't care what you think or have coz I have problem.

And I will go on looking for other companies unless I get what I want for the price point or I go on abusing the behench0ds.

    Have a Nice DAY!

    Hi Sonu,

good luck in ur endeavor Sonu. Good to see that ur not a quitter..but pls tone down the cursing.. save it for those ISP tech personnel and officers.

i doubt u will get a dedicated b/w until u get a dedicated business connection but that is too costly. Blame it on these 3 - the Tata, Bharti and Reliance sit on a huge pile b/w sh1t and yet not release it since they can regulate the prices and thus control the market.

    @Sonu
In your first post here you yourself made a mistake and insted of admiting it you are telling me crazy.

As far as speeds are concerned since how long are you facing this problem?
Their is no reason for the speed to be reduced at 10 everyday.
For me at what ever time of the day I can get a constant download of 220KBps.

And let me inform you that as far as Mumbai is considered, MTNL is the best ISP here. Why dont you try using MTNLs DNS servers? It may help.
Also mention the model no of your router.
Does the data rates in your router (up and down)also change when the speed gets reduced?
It is necessary to note such small things also.
Also did you change your plan at all the places you have your connection?

For your kind information you are getting rude post after post and may end up getting Banned.
    So be careful.

    Sorry guys!

I don't mean to be rude to you all.

    I apologize.

After-all you are the guys helping me out here.

I'm very sorry if any of you felt bad or something. I never intended it.

    Yes...I agree with you....all these ISP companies...suck man...totally.

    Thanks for your support guys.

I suppose there is no harm in trying other ISP's.

I wasn't always dis-satisfied with MTNL you know...

I have their connection for past 3 years now....

It was working great but since November onwards there is massive fluctuation etc. Since they changed the Gateway for me. Previously mine used to connect to 117.xx.x.x or 58.x.x.x. gateway server.

Anyway forget it....There is no need to crack my brains on it...It's out of my control.

Talking about speed change...I'm on 1 Mbps plan at my home. Office I'm on NU plan.

So the speed after 10 am...on the video sites/skype gets reduced drastically.

From night 12 am or so onwards it starts going strong.

There is no point in doing a speed test...The Speed Test comes up as 1 Mbps or 2 Mbps anytime of the day on any server in the world!

My problem is dedicated bandwidth which I need....The reason I need it is I had gotten accustomed to being an insomniac for sooo many days coz of the NU plan of MTNL & after changing it too UL plan very disappointed....Yes I do get speeds of 140 K on torrents in the middle of the day as well....

But like I told you I need dedicated bandwidth for video conferencing etc.

Also what's up with the pathetic low upload speed of 256 kbps!

Previously it was 1 Mbps upload as well now these chors want to charge...Rs.500 for extra 256 kbps! Well what can be done...I'll apply for that also!

Talking about speed changes in the modems settings...

My speed changes like this eg. upload goes down to 248 kbps after 11 am too 8 pm....Download goes too 1096 - 1152.

So all in all it's minor here & there....I'm sure that isn't the fault.

My modem being at fault? Don't think so. It's D-Link GLB802C.

Anyway thanks for your help guys.

I'm sure MTNL isn't that bad....but after providing me with dedicated bandwidth & then cutting it off...it feels absurd...kinda very frustrating lol.

Not to mention like day before yesterday...I had no connection...they had problem with their gateway! 1 day blackout of internet as well!

I don't think I can take this anymore hence I've applied for another ISP also.

I'll run both for a while & see....whichever then looks good I'll stick to that or stick too both depending on budget.

Talking about Tikona those guys aren't saints either but what can be done...welcome to my India lol.

    Default Facing the same problem

Guys im facing the same problem, some 3 months back i switched to Triband UL 749 plan, the first 2 months i got very good speed at all times of the day, in fact when i used to check on speed test it showed i got speeds around 1.3mbps or more I would get downloading speeds of 220kb/s, but some 15 days back i had some problems in my comp. The tech guy said that i have some motherboard problem and he fixed it in 3 days time, some capacitors had to be replaced he said.

Now since that day onwards my net speed has reduced drastically, im not getting download speeds of only 73kb/s and speed test shows 600kpbs speeds.

Ive complained a lot of times to MTNL guys but every time they tell me that the problem is rectified.
I would really appreciate your views on this issue, if its a computer problem or ISP problem and how do i solve it.
