    Default MTNL TriBand SUCKS!!!

    Hey guys & gals lol...

    I'm a TriBand user for 3 years now.

    I was on the Night Unlimited Plan for the best part of 2 and a half years.

    I never had many issues back then with it.

    But the nightmare has started since October 2009 or there abouts.

    I used to face crappy speeds... upto 3 am or so back then since that period (Thanks for turning me into an insomniac TriBand!)

    Not to Mention...they reduced their upload speed for Mumbai users to a measy 256 kbps from 1 Mbps from April 2009.


    Then came the throttling...for some reason I was throttled down to 512 kbps speeds for the whole month of November...

    The connected speed in the modem showed up as 2048 kbps....but the download/speed was just not there!

    Please don't tell me there is/was something wrong with my phone line/modem....Don't turn into a TriBand fanboy in front of me. I'm not in the mood. lol..

    Anyway so the throttling went away for December we were going Average so-so...

    Then they upped their Night Unlimited timings from 12 am too 10 pm - 8 am...

    Good going I say...NO!

    I was charged for the Febuary bill for the time I used their net in between 10 pm - 12 am!

    My bill came Rs.4000+! My dad almost threw me out of the house. Thanks to MTNL!

    I had to get the bill rectified then...which they did after running for 2 days at their local office.

    No problem again...I moved along.....

    Then came their unlimited plan of 1 Mbps for 999. I pick that...

    We're going good for the month of March...


    April again the throttle nightmare...I'm reduced to 192 kbps download speed!

    It goes up again after 5 days....

    Doing a complaint to their GM or anywhere never helps. They MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT! No matter what or how serious your problem.

    ALWAYS YOUR THE ONE AT FAULT! MTNL is never at FAULT. They're GOD!

    Anyway I moved along again...

    Come May....

    Now I have the same issue of mid-november...

    The speed from 12 pm - 3 am night is a fluctuating garbage off 512 - 1 mbps...

    It's never constant...Not to mention torrents go measily at 20 kb/s....

    5 am - 11 am...The speed comes back.....

    It's a 50-50 some days there is constant speed other days it's a nightmare.

    Again there are specific times...

    8.30 am & 7.30 pm or so....where their net just stops responding...no webpage loads....nothing....then after 2 mins it starts loading again.

    THIS PROBLEM has presisted since FOREVER!


    There are many other specific naggy things which get on your nerves....eg. you download something on torrents & try opening a webpage. It doesnt load!

    I give the torrent client a download/upload limit of 20 KB/ 10 KB

    still it wont load the webpage this at 1 am in the night!

    I have to pause the download & then surf! and I'm on a 1 Mbps connection NOT 10 KB/s connection!

    Frankly speaking I have had enough of this non-sense.

    I don't think I can take this anymore....

    I'll give it a period of 3 months. If they don't get their act right to some sort of decency. I am going to disconnect it.

    I simply cant understand why only U from all other customers of MTNL face such strange problems.

    In Mumbai and Delhi MTNL is the best ISP and those who say like the title of your thread and using private ISPs are all of the unfortunate ones who have bad experience with MTNL and are using some private ISP.

    I had got a new Broadband connection (TriB 599 Combo) from MTNL (New Delhi) 2 weeks ago. Ever since it’s installation I started facing Sevier problems in Network connection today there is no dial tone also. I had made so many complaints to MTNL Customer care but instead of healing it they give excuses. Finally I’m harassed of making complain to MTNL and they had no solution for me.

    tech123... Look I have nothing to hide...It's not my job to abuse MTNL or talk down on them.

    Nor do I work for any other company!

    I don't do that.

    I'm just getting my point across.

    I can pretty much GURANTEE You with the problems I've stated are present.

    I don't know your the lucky one...your connecting to another gateway or something...

    MTNL is just bad for me now...I cannot open webpage & download at the same time...it's impossible.

    Contrary this garbage Tikona connection of mine which has only 600 kbps speed. I Put torrent on 55 KB/s & I surf like crazy...no error while loading page or anything!

    And max available speed is 65 - 70 KB in this plan.

    Go figure!


    Anyway forget Tikona....

    The most important thing I hate about MTNL is their service!

    IF something goes wrong...they give you number of another guy & another guy gives you another person...etc.

    Look many of you might have patience I Don't blame you but I have anger issues...I really can't take this!

    They have a helpline for broadband all problesm should be solved thru there. Why the hell should I even go on calling someone here or there or where not.

    I had these problems.. 1504 told me call your local exchange...they say call the server room in prhabhadevi..??

    I'm tired okay...I cannot take this type of service. I rather pay to some idiot local cable wallah...or some company liek Tikona...

    They all have 1 number...doesn't matter if the problem gets fixed or not...There is just 1 number for EVERYTHING. At least when I complain I know I have peace of mind....that I made the complain...and rest is upto them.

    With MTNL always I'm the IDIOT. I make complain no you call here you call there... get your MODEM CHECKED! GET YOUR LINE CHECKED! I'm like screw DSL altogether then! lol

    Well, MTNL has always been a curse for me, never worked for me, pathetic customer service.

    Airtel is the Best.

    How much you pay for AirTel? airtel is also DSL yes? They give you service but the phone line has to be of MTNL. isn't that how it works?

    Or Airtel has cable internet?

    Airtel relies on MTNL...so when the rains come the phone line will get effed up for sure...what will AirTel do...its not their fault...once again go MTNL!

    I agree with the the thread starter. I have been using MTNL Triband for more than 5 years now and have to say that their services are much worst than before.
    On my 1 MBPS Ulimited Plan during evening times after 5:30 the connection would just frequently disconnect and even when connected won't work, no webpage would be displayed.
    I asked the MTNL Linemen why so, he says because MTNL is upgrading line's and servers and that everthing will be good in a couple of months time, and they do this in evening because there isn't a lot of Traffic < I don't know if he ment by internet traffic or road traffic but in either case its definetly worng.

    I never download from torrents, so i don't know what speed i would get there But using a Download Manager with Rapidshare account I get close to 240kbps download speed on 2MPBS connection and 120kbps on 1MBPS connection.

    I have two connection and one is MTNL, i love using MTNL connection. It worthy than others.

    I have this problem also...aasimentor!!!!

    Like webpage doesnt load for 2 mins...then it starts loading again.

    Man I swear nothing is wrong with my computer.

    Is it my modem??

    Or this is MTNL's fault?? Like 2 mins I click open webpage it says loading then says error...

    then like I sit & try after 3 mins it works again

    THIS PROBLEM has come since like October 2009...it was there before also but used to happen only at 8 am - 8.30 am mornings


    Now this happens like GOD KNOWS ANYTIME!


    This STUPID MTNL!

    Why should I use Port forward & non sense anyway...Like it works now I getting green light but this is crazy

    IT SHOULD HAPPEN AUTOMATIC!

    I am a NRI and my family is in India I know that if you are lucky, then you have no problem at all but if some thing goes wrong then you have to mentally prepare for suffering, because of poor customer service, not only for MTNL but all of service providers. They will start to play with the customer, I know that they have very good setup but they don’t want to work, I am sorry to say even though they are talking about 2G,3G, 3.5G,4G, and wimax, if you go any where in the world you will not find any telecom company who is going to loss, but why only “BSNL/MTNL”? only because all are lazy people and shame less.

    Sarfaraz - My problem is not with MTNL's service it is ok

    My PROBLEM is they give me 10 numbers to call....Why can't all problems be fixed through 1504 & immediately within 8 hours.

    Why wait for 2 days or 30 days to change plan & what not!

    Call your local area technician what non-sense!

    so it is my request to all of you please make sure your CPE is new one not used one. and don't buy from the market otherwise they will blame you about your CPE (but temporally you can use your own and during the failure connect the MTNL CPE

    so now i hope every thing will all right

    Using their CPE is retarded In my opinion.

    These tech things crap out anytime without warning.

    I have one modem in spare itself for emergency.

    It doesn't matter if they blame you for your own CPE coz YOU SURELY KNOW by now...their internet sucks & it's not the fault of the CPE aka Modem if you use your own
    no matter what non-sense they say which makes sense only to them! lol

    Today we visited to MTNL office to get another CPE but I am sorry again they gave used CPE (when I asked to give new one they said we don’t have stock) and when I came back it is not working also. And we contact them they said we will call you after 5 minutes but “5Minutes” not yet comes.
    What kind of this people and MTNL? Even they send a bill 1162 Rupees a after I got connection which I paid already. What is this?

    Finally I changed (bought) the CPE D-Link DSL-2640U now it is working fine but some time if there is no internet then we kept busy (phone receiver out from cradle So Phone kept busy) so immediately net comes. I don’t know if it is a technique or what, as a Technician of MTNL says to do this. And we are doing like that.

    I do agree with TS, MTNL just sucks to the core when it comes to service. They never take your problem seriously. Their utter, pathetic and uneducated staff makes matter even worst, I have been facing similar kind of problem that TS mentioned from lat more than 1 month. I switch to MTNL triband after they upgraded their plans early this year, I opted for unilimited_599 plan for which I used to get decent 100-120kbps download speed. I was really satisfied by switching to MTNL at that time, but from last few weeks my download speed started going down and down and now I get just around 30-40kbps.



    Sometimes I feel these MTNL guys are too lazy to move their old ass. Since this problem began I have diled more than 20 different numbers given by different MTNL guys, still no solution. One guy known as gupta from my local exchange started blaming me only for this problem !!!!!!!!!!!! according to this sucker, I am having speed problem because of having multiple phone connections in my house. Although I have phone connection in each of the room but always had single instrument only.


    I am just fed up with these stupid sucker known as MTNL now, moreover I cant approch to some other cable ISP because hathway rules in our local area who is even worst than MTNL.

    I doubt that tech guys @mtnl even qualified for their jobs.. They give this b***s**t everytime and anytime you complain "Our server is upgrading so please deal with patience or go screw yourself"
    Tell you guys the problem even isnt in the server. It usually lies in the phone line.
    Check for clarity of dial tone and clarity in talking on phone for that. I'm sure you'll get something wrong there. Most of the telephone boxes from where the lines go to individual phones are damaged and if you are unlucky it maybe your line which is damaged.
    And don't go on doin dsl speedtest hopelessly. It doesnt help.
    Please update me if the problem gets solved with this. I'm facing the same problem here and I'm lodging a written complain about damaged line quality

    these are just fake reasons that they give u the real thing is mtnl is good until ur conection faces a problem from then onwards it is hell

    There was some problem with my line's clearity too, I had lodged separate complaint about it earlier but after around 1 week I received call from MTNL and lady on the other hand said that they have tested my line through their main control room and there isnt any problem, although sometime I am still experience problem with dial tone and voice clearity. Dont know why the hell bullshit like MTNL get into such tech business when they dont have a qualified and dedicated staff to look after customers.
