Thread: MTNL broadband plans

I am based in Mumbai. At Present i have the DSL_Unlimited_599 512kbps plan.
Since I use it mainly for gaming and surfing and not for downloading, i need a faster line even if it is a limited download plan.

I have identified the DSL 598 plan which is upto 2mbps with a maximum download of 2.5GB. However the plan also says that the plans minimum download speed is 256 kbps and i am afraid it might slow down my connection if i keep getting 256kbps.

I need a plan with faster browsing speed within a budget of Rs 850 even if it has limited download.
Can users(in Mumbai) of existing 2MBPS plans please tell me if they really get 2MBPS as promised ? Should i switch to DSL 598 from the DSL 599UL plan ?

If you use net for gaming then I recommend you to stick with unlimited connections.

No I use it for internet chess which does not consume a lot of downloads but i require very high speed for it. Could any existing 2mbps user tell me if he really gets anywhere close to the actual 2mbps speed?

This is the speed you must get on a 2mbps plan. And if you are only getting around 1.75mbps to 1.90mbps than theirs a fault with your line.

Thank you Tech, I wanted to know if this 2 MBPS speed is applicable for limited plans as well. Could you tell me what is your exact plan ?

I am on UL 999 1mbps but getting double speeds. And yes the speedtest should touch 2mbps on any server in India on a real 2mbps on Limited or Unlimited.

You can do the following:
1.Lodge a line complaint and get your line checked
2.Call 1504 and ask them about the speed!
3.If the 2 steps fail,personally visit triband section and ask them about the speed

Last step:
Go tho the Nodal officer or apetite authority and ask them the solution of what's happening to you and do tell them that even after completing these three steps,your problem is still unsolved!!

Thanks for your reply. I contacted them but their reply is standard. They say as per TRAI guidelines they have to give a minimum of 256kbps and beyond that depends on the nodes

I would suggest that you need to talk to the prabhdevi exchange people, they r the ones who handle speeds and everything for all of mumbai. the last 2 times mtnl increased the unlimted plans speed I had to talk to the PB exchane before they increased the plan speed.
I am currently on the 499 unlimited combo plan, for last 2 months and am enjoying my old plan speed(999 1mbps ultd) until the babus wakeup and do an actual check and reduce the speed to 320kbps. I will go back to 999unlimited plan when that happens...
and yes i get upto 150 kbps actual dl speed on most sites. and torrents also go upto 140 kbps if i have good seeds.

All you have to do is to call 1504 and register a complain. Also register an online complain.
On the very next day( if its a working day) you will get a call asking about your internet problem.

Clearly and politely mention them that this is just a speed issue and the internet is fine.
Tell them your plan name and the speed you are getting.

Within hours your speed will be upgraded.
