Thread: Low speed with 512 unlimited combo plan

Hi Friends,

My download speed in the morning is normal i.e 120 KB/sec. However, it drops significantly in noon & evening & never cross 25 KB/sec mark. My plan is 512 kbps unlimited combo & router is DNA-A213. My router shows 2554 kbps download speed & 1021 kbps upload speed. Please let me know if you've any idea.

512kbps means you should get 64kBps download speed. Check your speed at some speed test sites. maybe you are getting speed boost in your connection in day times. if its new connection might be you are getting higher speed for time being. The router page shows the supported speed from the node to your router it has nothing to do with your plan.

512kbps plan means a speed of 1 MB/s i.e. 120 KB/s (you may remember mtnl has doubled the download speed of every user). That's fine in the morning & I'm MTNL user since 3 years. Now, it troubled me in noon & evening when speed down to 9-10 KB/s, sometimes touch 25 KB/s.

SOme says MTNL has doubled the speed, which i think tha everybody is not getting this double speeds, 2 of my friends in same locality have Rs599 plan of 521kbps are getting 512kbps only and not 1mbps. might be they will be getting sometime in the near future.

As for your problem why dont you confirm your plan details from MTNL customer care. MTNL has one plan of 512kbps with night speed of 1mbps for rs599 might be you are getting the opposite of it. Confirm from customer care if you are getting double speed or not.

I think there is some confusion. My plan is TriB_Combo_UL_512Kbps_new & it's Rs 999 plan. As such, my dwnld speed shd be 1 MB/s, which I got till 11 AM. My problem starts after 11 AM & downld speed never exceed 25 KB/s till 10 PM. I don't know what happen during 10 PM to 5 AM.

I noticed one strange thing. When speedtest result shows low speed & high ping, my download speed is good i.e. 120 KB/s & normally it happens in morning around 8 AM IST. And when speedtest result shows great speed & low ping, my download speed is 10 or 12 KB/s i.e. anything below 25 KB/s. Why it happens I don't know. Do you have any ideas?

As far as you friends are concerned, I think they are receiving right speed for Rs 599. They might be using TriB UL data-256 or TriB UL data-256 combo plan. Please confirm with them. They might check it at mtnl website.

officially on MTNL website your plan 512kbps UL combo promises a minimum speed of 1mbps as it has been upgraded. Its better you lodge a complaint on their IVR system.

The problem with speed test in your case is strange i think so. i think this problem is from MTNL side and not from your side. the speed are controlled from server.

Make a speed test at MTNL website before and after 11am, because MTNL will require you to do so as they will not believe in other speed test sites.

It seems nothing works at present. It's as usual gr8 speed in morning & slows down considerably as days progresses. Therefore, I'll migrate to 256 combo unlimited plan & saves Rs 400.

My friend using MTNL was facing the problem from last one week. from night 9 to morning 11am the net was working fast then it starts disconnecting again or low speed and when net was not working through browser it was working on utorrent and restarting router will again start it then after 15 minutes again down. No help from MTNL. I suggested Google DNS and from then its working fine and 20 minutes back i suggested him to switch back to MTNL default DNS ( obtain automatically) it again stopped working. And mtnl engineer says in evening that they have rectified the problem it was with connection box in their building so why the DNS is not responding and Ping also fails.

So your problem is also might be due to their DNS server errors.
